every b5 s4 has an immobilizer.
its commonly referred to as "anything in the engine bay"

i'll do the delete plate when i get everything else painted this spring.

a simple solution would be an alternate ignition switch, hidden somewhere in the cabin

I worry about my car too. For now what i do is just pull my fuel pump fuse for the night just in case. I'm going to wire in a switch and hide it somewhere

AFAIK its nothing that you can actually delete unless you totally change your door lock system. Theifs break in by punching a hole in the actualy door skin, nothing to do with the key hole. Your best bet is some sort of kill switch.... but really, the car is 10 years old, thats what insurance is for. If you have more then the vars value in parts then get it insured at the appraised value.

Bingo, we have a winner. The nice thing about being over 30 is that my insurance with mods covered is still only 1.1k a year

ah ok.
i knew the 1999-2001 VW;s had break in problems with the door punch, but that was into the lock itself. it was an easy enough fix, which i thought we could do as well.

It is to my believe that the insurance value of a stolen car is higher than the $$ one could sell the same car for.
What are the worries for?

But still how can B5 S4's be #7 on the list there aren't that many of them in Canada.

They must base it on the percentage of vehicles stolen from total # of those vehicles. Hell, the VW Corrado made the list a couple years back and there's probably less of them than there is B5 S4's.
