do it yourself. 1.8t is probably radically easier than the 2.7t.

i gave graeme my cam shaft lock tool, he'd be happy to rent it to you.

I hope you're not talking about your 2.7T camshaft lock bar...

yeah, no sweat. handy bar though. i think it fits on some of the non-turbo engines as well. not sure. i know it does 1.8t and 2.7t. might even fit some diesels. no idea though.

Pff. I did mine without any fancy tools. The only thing that I had to buy was a 12pt 19mm socket.

Really easy job, parts are around $300, and yes, get a waterpump while youre at it

That's kinda what I figured, but I thought maybe there was some magic lock bar that could be adapted to fit either engine type. The 1.8 doesn't have twin exhaust cams like the 2.7T, so the 2.7 cam lock bar is not even close to the same design.

pretty easy job. Graeme walked me through mine, and I'm borderline retarded when it comes to mechanical stuff. Could be right about that lock tool, but you don't REALLY need it. just mark stuff and be SUPER fucking careful.
