yea try different fluid.. no way that **** should freeze on you..

maybe ask erik.. do you have his email andrew i can fwd it to you and he can ask at the dealer if they know why i'm sure.. but i'm guessing fluid is the culprit..

not sure what gasline antifreeze and rubbing alcohol would do to your paint but be careful. I was reading some car forum and the geniuses there thought of putting coolant antifreeze in their washer bottle to keep it from freezing, the thread was revived a few months later with a guy whining that it damaged his paint, go figure....

I would get a new bottle of fluid and try again, shouldn't freeze even if the lines were thin, I'm pretty sure (assuming you aren't driving in -45 degree weather- wind chill doesn't count) that violates the second law of thermodynamics!!!

If its that cheap to begin with, how do you think their quality control is, let alone the quality of their products.

my old ford explorer had that issue, if i recall it was the same as the transmission fluid. shouldn't freeze though, check and see if the fluid is dirty or has water in it. some places fill it up with water because they're stupid.

don't know about that dude, I haven't heard of a single shop using water for washer fluid before. When I worked at a rental company we had probably 10x the number of cars going in and out of the bays than a regular shop would and they never got filled with water. I asked the area manager about the cost of the washer fluid and he said its literally pennies/vehicle because they buy in bulk (ie have a tanker truck fill our washer fluid tank a few times a month). Only time I can see getting a bad batch of washer fluid from a shop is around sept/oct when they are switching over to the winter stuff. We had a huge tank in the bay and it probably took a full month for the stuff to be 100% winter washer fluid.

but if I mis read and you are instead are saying some places fill the power steering with water than I think you're straight out to lunch Luunta

i took my car in, and the oil change place had topped up my power steering a couple ounces of water, and it seriously fucked up my power steering.

i do not believe i was out to lunch at the time. reasonably certain it was a saturday morning.

lol, could imagine the tech going to the service desk, hey could I get a flat of dasani i have a couple power steering flushes to do today, oh and add in a flat of perrier, one of the customers wants premium fluids.

I would be surprised if someone did that by "mistake" as no tech would be that dumb. Unless you go to places like jiffy lubes where a large number of the employees have never seen under the hood of a car prior to working there.

I could possibly see condensation buildup freezing, I am not sure if power steering fluid is hygroscopic but I wouldn't be surprised. But I don't think you'll have to worry about someone dumping water into it as you would have noticed that by now for sure
