  • E46 brake pad change

Hey guys so im thinking that I might change my own Brake pads on my 2004 325cic. I was reading that its pretty easy and shops can charge around $800 for front and rear pads. Has anyone done them before and is it as easy as others have said it is?

its a pretty straight forward task. nothing to complicated. Have you done a brake job before on another car? if so I dont think you will have any issues. The wear sensor can sometimes be a little tedious with the way its routed.

      Re: E46 brake pad change

sorry I can't comment on your specific car but a couple things you should pick up before starting are: caliper piston compression tool (rent/buy), turkey baster to remove some brake fluid from the reservoir before pushing the piston in, latex gloves for when you are removing the fluid as its not nice stuff to get on your skin, brake clean to clean up everything, brake caliper grease to grease up guide pins etc if applicable and I also like to wear a mask when dealing with brake dust and/or brake clean, investing in a decent 3M mask from canuck tire has been one of my best investments (you can't even smell brake clean through it) although I admit it is likely WAY overdoing it but I have asthma so its helped a bunch and also maintains a high brain cell count haha.

        Re: E46 brake pad change

So Motorwerkes said around $740 with tax. That includes pads, rotors, and sensors. I think thats pretty decent because the pads alone around $300. So that seems pretty good and I havent done brakes before so might be best to let a pro do it. lol

wow, 300 for pads seems really expensive to me. FCPgroton sells front/rear pads and sensors all in a $129 kit.

                Re: E46 brake pad change

I priced out all the pads, Brembo rotors and sensors and it was about $350 shipped from autopartsway.ca.
Buy the good stuff and do it yourself. Just YouTube e46 brake replacement and call it a day.

We can get pads, sensors and rotors for you if you wish to do yourself or have us install them for you. Give you an idea I can do front & rear pads & sensors for around $115 and Brembo rotors for around $300, I have a choice of pads for you depending on your needs as well.

                          Re: E46 brake pad change

I think the ones I was looking at online were no dust ones. Maybe that's why they were so expensive. its amazing though what kind of prices are thrown around. One shops said around $1700 and motorwerkes said around $720 plus tax. Going to call tunerworks tomorrow since I rather deal with a shop that has a good rep. I have heard so many different stories about motorwerkes. Some good some not so good.
