What's that supposed to mean? Buying an S4 is like poking a bear with your wallet.

It means that I should have remembered this: Do not feed the trolls.

With a user title of "Professional Insigator", what else would one think?

If buying an S4 is like poking a bear with your wallet, doing an entire drivetrain swap on a Subaru is like putting your wallet in the bears mouth and then punching it in the stomach.

Anyway, moving on. I am excited. Im going to go test drive an S4 this evening. Might also give a 330xi a spin as well, just to have a comparison of what is out there in the sporty, awd class.

fairly heavily modified... not quite what im looking for.

Never asume that a car is in better shape because it has fewer km's. I have seen and owned some high km Cars that are in eqaul if not better shape than alot ofther ones with half the milage.

I understand, Jess, I really do. Some cars are lemons, and some cars have not been maintained very well by previous owners, but one car (and not an S4, at that) does not determine the trend for an entire line of cars.

I don't believe I'm mistaken when I'm suggesting that an audi is a bit of a money pit in general.

Besides, I understand it's good for your business when people buy audi's. I get it.

Anyways, he can buy the car, it's just good to know what he's potentially getting into.

If you think that I recommend Audi to people when they want to purchase a car just so I can make a couple of bucks off of them, then you'd be completely wrong. Granted, it's no Toyota, but Audi's, including the S4, are not horrible at all when it comes to reliability. The reason that most people spend an arm and a leg on their car, is because they get bitten by the mod bug, but because of OEM part failures.

My own personal vehicle of choice is Audi. I've been owning and driving VW's and Audi's since long before I ever went into business.

Perfectly understandable. I have two comments in return. The km's should not scare you, but I understand some people do care about km's and there is no budging. The car has been maintained with care. I am the third owner and the other two owners were at least 15 years older than me (im 28), they appeard to have money and I have lots of receipts.

Your gonna buy a stock S4 for $10,000. I gaurantee you, you will want to mod it, at some point. Starting with a $500 chip. Thats where it all begins.

The car is also not heavily modded if you want to get technical. OEM turbos that Audi offers on the RS4, full exhaust and a chip to compensate. The K03's may not last too long in the car you are looking at. Its inevitable that they will need to come out of the car fairly soon.

I am not trying to persuade you to buy my car at all. I know the car is a great deal and is a rare (ish) package for a good price. If your looking at a stock S4 for 10K....You could spend the extra $4,500 and buy something like mine.

No one believes me when I say the car has 213,000km's. But lets be honest with each other, isnt that why we have cars....to drive them?!

The most recent owner lived in Elbow Valley and his commute was easily 100km's/day. Thats how the km's start to add up.

I do hope you get into the S4 community though. Great cars all around! You gotta pay to play, but you obviously have some wrenching knowledge which will eliminate alot of costs/pains.

The Jerbel and nothing777 are also great guys that offer great knowledge! I am sure there are others on the boards but I have personally dealt with these two

                            Good luck!

Ah Zaider. It seems like there's more than one WSC'r looking into Audi's for their significant other.

Are the S4's similar to their VW counterparts in terms of electrical issues? I hear enough stories that some of it must be true. None of the stories happened to mention anything about specifically was the problem.

If O2 sensors, EGT sensors and the LCD screen count as electrical problems.. then yes. The other electrical gremlins in Audi's past? No.

I think I've been lucky, but Im on my fourth B5 and havent had any major problems.

Maybe I should add that its a necessity to have a VAG-com... the check engine light will come on every once in a while, and 99% of the time its something you can fix EASILY by yourself.
