  • This pinch bolt is going poorly

Well snapped off one end already and bent a hammer it's a good start for the long weekend.

Any tips that seem to work for you guys?

Also isn't the pinch bolt nut supposed to face the front of the car not the back?

Heat and a centre punch got my snapped bolt out.

Heat and liquid wrench got the nut off but bolt is still seized somewhere in the center. Both ends of the upright flex at the pivot points but the center is locked in trying to pull it out using the nut and some pacers but isn't really moving tho.

Stripped the other end so i can't even pull it out using the nut anymore. The battle will resume tomorrow.

and now the fucking bolt holding the upper front control arm is in backwards so you cant fucking remove it as it hits the body. Why are all the bolts in this car fucking backwards.

Checked that bolt on the other car and it's the same way how do you normally get it out? Do you remove the upper shock mount? Or as i just did cut the head off and stick it in the other way when replacing.

              doh!

i ended up removing all the fucking control arms to get mine out!! then i removed all the damn control arms and replaced them all new

              PITA!!

air hammer and heat didn't do **** for me.. you need PURE power with a sledgehammer and a punch to get that sucker out.. (well for me)

Re: This pinch bolt is going poorly

What you may want to try if you're desperate is taking a cut off wheel (or zip saw if you want to call it that) and cut the bolt in the two pinch areas. As far as I can tell you can safely fit a zip wheel in that space without actually cutting the upright.

If you can get the bolt cut up then at least you won't be trying to un-fuse the entire bolt at once. Spray some Gibbs in there to loosen it up. I wouldn't resort to heat until absolutely necessary. Heating suspension components is generally a no-no as you may change the metallurgic properties of the piece that you're heating. This can result in the piece cracking later down the road.

not solid steel uprights man.. aluminum ones i wouldn't touch then again pinchies don't get stuck in aluminum uprights

i'd try to cut it roger as i've seen that method before too

                  i hate the pinch bolt..

                      It's all out and done.

Ended up heat and hammer style but still confused on how everyone removes the inner bolt on the forward upper control arm since the bolt will hit the body of the car when taking it out?

I just cut the head off and then put the new bolt in the other direction from the shock side.

Re: This pinch bolt is going poorly

its easy i did mine yesterday.

you heat the hell out of it with a butane torch to avoid snapping it. let it release, undo it and tap it out.

what are you talking about it hits the body? i didn't have any issue like that. i did that an issue with the lower bolt on the fronts going in with the nut forward on the car, so it backed out towards the lower control arm. need graeme to stand on the brake disc and push the angle down enough it would slide out.
i just reversed it yesterday and now its all good. pinch bolts were a breeze

Re: This pinch bolt is going poorly

For the Upper front control arm the way the bolt wants to exit is towards the front of the car up near the upper shock mount and the body of the car is there so it don't come out unless you remove the shock mount which i didn't feel like doing.
