  • shimmy shimmy yaw!

My wife curbed two of the wheels on the wagon last week and I noticed a shimmy in the steering wheel between 80 and 105. Below or above that speed it seems to go away. The car isn't pulling to either side and the wheel is straight. I had the wheels re-balanced which helped slightly. I had them balanced again when I got to Vancouver for no charge (big chain stores) but the shimmy is still there. Any ideas what it might be? I thought possibly alignment or wheel bearing but the symptoms don't really fit.

I plan on having Andrej take a look at them when I get back and then having Bob balance them right... I just hope Andrej is as good as everyone says he is. Looking at that much wheel damage makes me cry inside

One of the rims may be bent. As such, you wouldn't be able to balance them 100%.

Ask the next shop to do a rim runout test. This will verify a bent rim for sure.

I can't believe you would suggest that.
