Re: I bought a turd. So much for PPI's and business ethics

was the shop a reputable one? Had they dealt with many Audis? I think you could make a point of publishing the shop and previous owners name....

Sounds to me like the guy cleared all codes before he dropped it off....

Don't understand why not immediately take it to a dealership or shop, get an inspection thats proper, take a ton of photos, document this whole thing before you start fixing things...

Yes, it was Autospeed. That's why I'm so surprised at this outcome. They had a good reputation. There are TONS of things that should have been disclosed and were not. I jacked up the car today and found that the ftont bumper is cracked on the bottom about 8". Isn't a cracked bumper something to disclose on a PPI? Cracked body panels are not fucking "wear and tear".

I'm taking pictures of every single thing I find and am going to be making a big thread on all the forums about what happened. The car is going to go to an Audi dealer tomorrow for another inspection. I'm not fixing stuff yet, I'm just looking around for what else is wrong. I'm going to get a quote on the body stuff to fix the floor because I want to get a range of what its going to cost me.

I was prepared for some maintenance costs. After all, if I wasn't, buying an B5 S4 would have been retarded, but having large up front costs to get it sorted is lame. I'm not going to start flaming the shop until I'm lined up and can back/document everything so they don't have a leg to stand on. I truly believe at this point the owner paid them to keep their mouth shut.

I'm shocked that a shop with a reputation like AutoSpeed would have done this!
Im guessing they missed the majority of your problems..

no offense, but this is why you take your car to a DEALER for certified PPI's. the checklist is the exact same on both sides of the border and you know what you are getting. who knows what autospeed checked and didn't check, or what they consider to be worthy of reporting.

let this be a lesson to ANYOEN buying a car on either side of the border. take the car or have it sent to a dealer. doesn't matter if it costs more, or if its not the regular shop. they are an independant set of eyes with a checklist to go through.

the guy who dropped off my car never even got to see the PPI. i paid for it and was using it for negotiations so he never saw a copy. he dropped the car off and picked it up.

The way it should be! However more often then not the techs chat with the guy dropping off/picking up the car...

Agreed, huge mistake on my part. There's no way an Audi dealer would have missed these issues. For what its worth I had Autospeed send me the PPI directly first. They're just a **** shop evidently.

I had a PPI at my local VW repair place, but I trust the mechanic there completely. Owner never saw the report. Car needed tons of work, owner acted like it wasn't a problem.

Inversely, I took my allroad to a dealer and they missed the fact that the air suspension had a small leak in both front sides. Dealers aren't always fantastic either. They missed other problems as well, but that **** is in the past.

at least with a dealer you know what you are getting, and you know what they are checking.....and you potentially have recourse.
going after a dealer, and Audi of America is a lot easier to fix than a one off shop that could care less.

I dont 100% trust the dealer as I stated before that during their so called inspection they missed the gearbox being hooped on mine, so Its obvious they didnt test drive it, good thing after it was brought to their attention they put in a new gearbox no questions asked.
