Wow!!! I feel for you man! Hope it somehow works out! And I too suggest you ship the car if you end up keeping it. Much less of a headache. Nothing worse than having to drive a long distance with the worry of whether the car will make it!

That sucks.. some people dont care at all who they bend over, wifes old boss bought a Ford 350 from Montana and it used 20 litres of oil to get here, and they flew to Chicago to get an Infinity and when they looked at it the bumpers didn't match the body, the seller "acidently " forgot to mention that it had been in a accidently. hopefully you get it sorted out

So how did you end up making out with the shop that did the PPI?

Re: I bought a turd. So much for PPI's and business ethics

Conversation with the shop went poorly. It was pretty obvious the previous owner had contacted them before me and they had aligned their stories. They tried to act like it was normal and not a big deal. "almost every S4 I've seen has that" is what they said so they "didn't really notice it". I did all the checks like a car fax and everything. I even got references for the shop and seller. I just lost this time. A seems honest, but dishonest seller and shop. I talked to a lawyer and they had the "you can't prove who damaged it, so we're kind of hooped" type of thinking. I'm keeping diligent track of what everyone says and I'm going to end up putting the shops actions up for scrutiny.

I left NYC and made it to my sister's place in Ohio. Car did OK on the highway there and the temps stay low enough at highway speeds. All 4 wheels are out of balance though. Once we hit the highway I noticed. I think she will make it home, but she needs some TLC and it will probably cost a chunk to get the floor fixed. It's a beautiful car and I'm going to treat it properly now.

It needs some new parts, a fix for the floor and, before Euroquake, what I can only expect will be a 20+ Hour detail inside and out.

Can someone recommend a good body shop for the floor and a paint-less dent and paint place to get some stuff remedied?

Rondal and I can compare Avants when I'm back. I bet his under 10K Avant looks better than my 18K Avant.

Re: I bought a turd. So much for PPI's and business ethics

Well, today we worked on the car a little and did some of our own inspection. There were a bunch of loose hoses in the engine bay. We tightened down what we could. I'm now getting a creaking sound coming from the front suspension when I'm going around 90 degree corners and have to turn the wheel a fair way.

Limp mode came back today when driving around in Ohio. I'm still getting P1545 Throttle Valve Controller Malfunction and the EPC, ABS, and Traction Control lights come on. From my research here it seems I might have a bad throttle body or a bad ECU with that code. Both of which are unfortunate and not the cheapest things to fix. Apparently one way to test this it to put a working S4 ECU in my car and see if the code is still thrown. If it is, the throttle body is the issue, if its not, the ECU is toast. Ahh, and so begins the B5 S4 slowly taking my money away, lol.

I'm going to look into getting the floor fixed down here in Ohio because labour is so much cheaper than in Alberta. My family I am staying with had their car fixed at a local autobody place and were very satisfied. I looked over their car today and couldn't find anything wrong with the work, so I'm getting an estimate tomorrow.

I keep finding more things wrong with the car now that I have more time. It's like the PPI that was done was completely false and the previous owner just had them make one up. Their are a bunch of issues I can see plainly with my eyes that they didn't disclose. Either they are complete morons and don't know what a healthy car is supposed to look like, or they lied at the owners request to offload the car to me.
