Infant Restraint System needed for b5 S4 wagon

So i just brought my car in from the US, and it needs RIV inspection. Ic hecked the RIV website and I didn't think it said anything about needed child restraint stuff for the back seat, but apparently it does.

Audi says the parts alone are $485 + 2 hours worth of install time.

Does anyone know what is involved in this kit? And if it HAS to be audi parts?
The install stuff I'm sure I can handle, but its more getting the pieces for it. Of course Audi's going to make people bend over for some shitty little tie downs i'll never use but i want to know if there's another way.

The two parts are the hook points that are mid way up the back of the back seats, and the hook points that are below the seat, between the butt cushion and the back cushion. The back of seat ones could probably be generic, but the under seat ones look specific. Pics in a sec....

From my B5.5 Passat. That black bar is part of it, it has to loops on it. That's the passenger side one at least.

** the back seats quite likely have a threaded spot behind the carpet for the hook and bolt, even if the bolt isn't there... For my MK3 jetta, those back of seat hooks were about 25$ each i think for the steel hook point, bolt, washer, and plastic trim cover, so it's likely the under seat one that is $$. My jetta a sedan so the hooks or on the back dash area, but same piece more or less. In that case I had to drill holes in the back dash piece, but the threads to put the bolt in to were already installed under it.

canadian tire does the RIV. and im sure they have NO idea what is specific to Audi vs some generic parts.

Royal Oak just called back and now the number has ballooned to $485 for tethers + $350 for anchors + 2.5 hours install time @ $135 = $1000+

F@CK that noise.
I'm going to look today and see whats back there. Maybe I buy some mounting brackets and fab them up. Even if I get a shop to help do it its gonna be cheaper than Audi.

I'm not 100%, but I think the under seat ones aren't needed. Just the tethers on the backs of the back seats.

Passenger cars, motorhomes and limousines must be on the List of Vehicles Admissible from the U.S. (leaflet CL 9203 E). If a passenger car is not on that list, the importer must obtain written certification from the original manufacturer indicating that the vehicle complies with Canadian standards CMVSS 210 (seat belt anchorages), CMVSS 210.1 (tether anchorages) and CMVSS 215 (bumpers). (Applicable to passenger cars only). If a motorhome or limousine is not on that list, the importer may contact Transport Canada to ascertain the status of the vehicle. (Applicable to motorhomes and limousines.)

so that makes things un clear, but it does suggest that both anchorages are needed.

I believe all cars manufactured after 2000 or something have to be manufactured with both bottom and rear tethers. You can't retrofit bottom tethers that I have ever seen as they are usually welded right to the frame. I have seen lots of cars that don't have the rear tether though and it is usually a plate with a welded nut that goes into the rear seat frame and a metal mount like what Stefan pictured.

The one in my Passat is anchored by the torx bolts that you can just see on the right side. They aren't welded like the jetta/golf ones were.

Your car needs the safety restraints, but what I'd do is just go to a wrecker or even try Shokan or audibits2 (ebay.co.uk) and get some cheap.

Do you have the recall status/safety code compliance clearance letter from AOA? That's non-negotiable in the importation process.

Doesn't look like a major job to install...in fairness they are there for a reason and you'd want a good install job done. Guess it depends on you DIY skills.

On the other hand...yes, Audi is really screwing you on those prices!

the car already has the damn things in there i looked last night.
i never plan on having a car seat in there anyway so i could care less if its barb wire, duct tape, or post it notes holding a seat in there.

im gonna go try to pass it today with the stock ones in there and see what happens
