  • COld Start issues... AWE Stage 3 (Worth a shot here)

So I've been having these cold start issues for some time now.. and somewhat stumped. Car takes two cranks to start up first thing in the morning, even when I turn the key to one click, and leave it for 10 seconds..
    Here is what I've tried:
-Replace stock fuel pump with 044 (Thinking failed one way valve)
    -Rotated injectors to fenders
    -Replaced N80 valve
    -Pressure Check.

Guess I should note that Im on a high-altitude Moss tuned GIAC/AWE file

What else in next?? Any thoughts or suggestions??
The car drives normal once its going.. just a bit embarassing to have to crank it twice to get it started...

i have a similiar issue with my apr chip.. when i switch modes.. the first start ESP and ABS lights up on the dash.. then next time i start it it takes 2-3 starts before i wants to go.. after that its fine..

Somewhat an odd situation.. I guess I should actually be emailing Jeff Moss, as he takes the standard GIAC file and made changes to it.. (decrease MAF size etc)

I did chat with Tunerworks about trying the stock giac file, but they didnt have an extra flashloader around, and if I ut the file on mine, I would lose my custom program..

      Anyone have a spare flashloader?

I dunno if it's the same for you or how many KM's, but some of guys on the MKVGTI forums who had problems with cold starting, attributed it to carbon buildup on the intake valves.

They found that after cleaning the valves, the cold start problems disappeared. I'm not sure if your S4 is Direct injection, but if it is, and you've got a few km's, then perhaps you might have a slight hiccup there too?

No direct injection here.. its a 2001 with 130km.
I guess I could always seafoam it... I'll have to head to my parents for that.. inner city folk wouldnt be too happy about the smoke!

Have you replaced or tested the coolant temp sensor?

I havent logged it lately with VAG.. but the gauge control portion seems to go up as it should.. but I guess there is also an ECU control off of it as well.
Is testing it just making sure it goes up incrementally via VAG?

I have a call into Tune Dub to see if they have one in stock...

There are two readouts- one for the gauge, and one for the ECU. You can test it by looking in the bentley manual and comparing the pin outputs to the literature value based on the actual temperature of the coolant.

Yeah.... I think I'll just buck up and buy a new sensor. Cheaper then the Bentley!
I have a call into TuneDub. Anyone else around here have an extra??

There was a recall on CTS - I should have one new (with clips) - never changed due to the recall.
