Their going to be awfully wide on a stock rim, might rub and look like ass. Are you on stock rims? What width of rim are you on, because if their stock its going to look like a truck tire setup.

245 width on an 8" wide wheel is going to be pretty "chunky" looking to some people. it would work on a b6 car though. i ran 245's on an 8.5" wheel on my old M3.
the funny thing is that it's only 1 size larger in width from OEM. and,.. depending on the tire manufacturer and model, some 235's might run as wide or wider than another 245.

Where do you see the width distance between 225/235/245 is it from the rear of the car or would you see it when looking at the side of the car (sidewall I guess lol?)?

            Sorry for the lame question

you'd see the "width distance" when looking at the width of the tire.

the sidewall of a 245-40-18 would be slightly taller than a 235-40-18 (same tire / manufacturer).

if you do not have tire pressure sensors (and bheing a B6 I highly doubt you do), you don't want to use runflats... You will never know if your tire is flat until it has completely shredded and falls off from long term running without air, which can be a dangerous situation...

                    Re: a4 tires

for about $200 more than the kijiji tires, you should be able to get into a decent brand-new set of oem sized tires. (and not be in the linglong, sunny, lexani spectrum)

Bob is bang on.... Run flats are terrible tires.

See Bob for tires or get some General Excaim UHP's from the tire rack
