Re: Stay out of the fast lane

I dislike douchebags racing down busy roads as much as anyone here but really, blocking the fast/passing lane can be dangerous and just a little bit childish.

Re: Stay out of the fast lane

        This thread is entertaining

On a multi-lane highway I always drive in the right lane no matter what my speed, pass on the left and get back over. I think it just helps the flow of traffic better to operate in that manner, my biggest annoyance is when someone passes with their cruise control on at 112km/hr another vehicle going 109km/hr. Please speed up to pass and get over and hit resume, especially if there are people coming up behind you at a faster rate.

In the city the same principles do not work as easily but on a road like Deerfoot you should be close to that with maybe utilizing the middle lane a bit more to avoid the merging traffic on the far right. However personally I avoid that road more than any in town as people on there are a little nuts and the wear and tear on the car is too much for my liking.

Exactly. I think there are lots of valid points being made on this thread however, so many things are getting "lost in translation" on the 'tex that people aren't able to understand. I've never stated that I wouldn't "get out of the way"... only that if I'm already going 30kph over the speed limit... kissing my bumper isn't going to "speed me up".

Trust me... I use the fast lane exactly as Canadian Turbo does. But just because I won't go 165kph to pass a blob of traffic blocking all other lanes both a) doesn't mean I'm not passing properly at 140kph or b) mean that I should forever be banished to the middle/far right lanes.

PS. OMG... I enjoy my car daily, 365 days a year... on all types of lanes... middle ones, right ones, left ones, merging ones, highway ones, single-lane ones, one-way ones, curvy ones, hilly ones.....

          Cheers...

Re: Stay out of the fast lane

People who take a Sunday drive in the fast lane are among my few pet peeves. Sometimes it gets the better of me, actually. Watching your mirrors shouldn't be such a chore, in fact its all part of defensive driving. People don't just all the sudden come up behind you...

Another poor habit of drivers is to tailgate when coming up to a merge lane off the highway. Hello asking for a pileup.

As for the Highway Traffic Act, people who are inspired to prosecute it should join forces with the governing bodies responsible otherwise get the fcuk out of the way. Those of us who drive in excess pay our own consequences. And everyone makes mistakes sometimes.

Now in this case if you called in they will ask you to show up also for the court date to support your side of the story. A pain in the ass, but it can be done.
            This is false.

Citizen's arrests aren't valid in Canada, just the States. You can phone in a complaint about a drunk or reckless driver but that's not a citizen's arrest. Just like you can't actually "lay charges," rather file a complaint where it's then up to the police to take action based on the facts.

Re: Stay out of the fast lane

My wife was driving with a friend when a group of douche bags where trying to get their attentions, after being ignored the guys threw a water bottle at them. They went and filed a police report at the station. The police said that they will charge them with stunting, but if they wanted to fight the ticket, they both would have to show up to court and testify.
I've called non emergency before on people parked infront of fire hydrates before, bylaw showed up and gave them a ticket.
Also its like when you call to report a drunk driver the police usually have to show up to to see it for themselves

Re: Stay out of the fast lane

i made a citizen arrest in Sylvan lake about 5 years ago, Were following a guy that was hammered almost hit a guard rail a couple times, called the cops. followed him eventually flagged him down to pull over and when he did we got out and took his keys. The guy was fucked! Stayed for the cops to show up and when he went to give the cop his id he gave him his debit card. Worst part was the guy was easily over 60.

Hopefully we saved someones life that day.

most drunk tards driving would be pretty angry, when being pulled over by some random person, and being held against their will.

I can only say my brother got affected by some douche calling in his plates saying he was driving recklessly. He was in Northern Ont at the time, so its not like he could wait for the court date. We kinda wondered if it was somebody with a not so loving feeling for people from Alberta because of his plates. Oh well, want to screw somebody from another provinces insurance record up and have some time file the complaint.

Then explain why all highways in alberta have these wonderful signs:

On highways, get the slow azz cars to the right and let the ones that want to speed.. speed!

OMG I know! Some people just seem clueless when you drive behind them, then around them, they didn't even know where you came from.

I personally like to swerve wildly, at random intervals, at highspeed, throwing bananas out my window. If I am going to be self-policing, I am going to police every lane at once, constantly.

then I like to come and talk about my actions with incredibly long diatribes about people being offended about my driving.
