Re: Stay out of the fast lane

I'm lovin' this thread. I use the so-called "passing" or "fast" lane for 2 reasons:

              1. To "pass" people or go "fast". (NOTE: My definition of "fast" is anywhere up to about 25% over the speed limit.)
              2. If I'm already IN the "pass" or "fast" lane going 25% over the speed limit and you (whoever you are) ride my ass because... well... 140kph isn't good enough for you on the Deerfoot... well then let me tell you sir... I will "c*ck block" the "fast/pass" lane all day long. In fact, I usually enjoy watching my rear view mirror and smiling as you (whoever you are) build yourself into a steaming rage and I can see your red face in your vehicle (which is a car length and a half behind me still at 140kph). Then, as soon as steam starts pouring out of your ears and you go to do the "double-douche" pass (ie. right lane pass on a 3 lane highway with me and another car in the pass and middle lanes respectively) I immediately step on it and pull into the middle lane.

Oh yeah, and as you pass me on the right as I'm now in front of the other car and give me the middle finger salute... I will gladly salute you back... most commonly by either the passive "smile and wave" or my favourite "the blowing of kisses".

See ya in the fast lane boyz!

true.. now this story is a long time about but like 6 years ago a bunch of us went up to edmonton for a show.. we cruised up doing probably 140 easily and we rode the right lane the whole way up.. pull out to pass back in the right..

                  easy enough

Omg! All you guys are too funny. I'm so going to blow kisses the next time and see what kind of reaction I get lol. Fingering them doesn't seem to do very much.

I agree completely. However, if I'm going down a divided highway (110kph speed limit) passing a string of cars (say 3 with unsafe merging space in-between them) in the passing lane at 140kph... coming up behind me at 165kph and attempting to essentially "push" me faster and out of the way is not acceptable.

So... my issue isn't really about improperly using the passing lane whilst not passing but rather, passing appropriately and having boneheads wanting to go stupid fast who get angry because they need to wait an extra 4 seconds for me to pass and merge back to the right.

                        Happy motoring fellas!

                          LOL!

I guess you've never driven in Germany on the autobahn!

I love the lane discipline they have there, they get out of the way when a faster car is approaching from behind (usually at a MUCH greater speed). Don't be a jerk, just get out of the way. You're just being a greater danger on the road than the guy speeding behind you. It's not your job, nor is it your prerogative to "police" anyone but yourself.

                          LOL, where's the popcorn?

ya i work with a buddy who grew up in london..

he told me in germany and france if your on a highway and say your even doing 140 in a 110 or what have you
he said when he was younger this car came up on him doing like 170 but he was passing a string of 6 cars.. the car BUMPED HIM slightly to say get the F out of the way!

when he got to the town ahead he pulled into a police station to report what happened and they laughed at him he said.. he said the french and germans drive nuts as hell LOL

you can be fined in germany for not moving right to let faster traffic through.

impeding another vehicles progress.100euro fine.that was in 2000.
i need to get back on the autobahn.
nothing like a 150mph RS6 in your rearview to make you move right.

There is a measure of truth to that statement. While on highways, the left lane is meant as a passing lane, in the city it's not. As far as I know there are no legal passing lanes on 2 lane thoroughfares. Take for example, 16th ave between 68th and Deerfoot. The right lane is a weave lane. It's meant to take in merging vehicles or allow vehicles to exit. The left lane is a through lane. If you aren't getting in or planning to get out then stay left. It is not an express lane for pickup truck drivers and people running late.
