Just got my downpipes out last night goddam that was not fun lol. Gonna do all the gutting and welding today. Just out of curiosity for those of you that have completed the mod, did you have to extend the wires for both sets of o2 sensors to reach the new bungs? Or just take em off the firewall and re route em some other way. As well if I do have to extend the wires, is there any problem with resistance etc if I cut and solder 1 or 2 feet to each set?

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
b5 s4 i take it?
i fully gutted mine but you should be able to solder and extend to save time not sure how i'd feel about soldering on my back under jackstands tho
see my build thread for all my aggravation during my downpipes LOL

c5 a6 2.7t 6spd,Thanks ryan I read all about your aggravation and learning fun hahah. The 1st set is completely removed but I will prob take out the seconds to do the soldering. Is that how you did yours or were you able to make them reach?

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
They'll reach. And if you build the dp's so the O2's don't reach, you can extend the wires with no problems.Jordan

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
Alright, reachin is better than soldering. Just finished gutting the pre-cats and welding everything back together. Thank god for 2 inch drill bits, drill presses and friends with excellent welding skills! They look great and hopefully perform and sound the same! re-install starts now...

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
Just have the rear O2 bungs welded as close to the end of the cats as possible and you'll be fine. You will probably have to snip a couple of tie wrap's to get some more length on the leads but no big deal.2002 996TT

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
Got everything back together running smooth little bit more turbo whistle not noticing huge power gains but need to get aftermarket mufflers and take out resonator as well. I did get engine codes after driving for about a half hour, now this was most likely the f**k up on my part....when i relocated the o2's i plugged the ones right before the precats and then relocated them to the next bung down the line. The secondary o2's were relocated right after the secondary cats as per all the pics and info I had gathered...is this why I am getting codes?

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
The primary O2's stay up top before the precat, don't move these. Plug the original bungs for the secondary O2's and place them after the main cats. Make sure all of your connections are good, reset your codes and see if they come back again.Last edited by The Brice; 04-25-2010, 03:57 PM.2002 996TT

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
So u think those codes are related to the placement of the 1st set of o2's and hopefully not my wiring/soldering skills? I dunno how i pulled idiot and plugged the wrong ones. Oh well more skinned and ravaged hands here we come! Anyone taken out the resonators and done a muffler delete on there s4's and been happy with it?

The muffler delete sounds great compared to OEM.Jordan

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
yea i vag'd my car today after the battery was dead/replaced the it had codes from the last time i breifly started about o2 crap.. i just deleted them tonight drove around for 20 minutes and did some WOT and scanned again and nada so i'll keep watch on them
you can really HEAR the turbos with straight pipes thats for sure.. just cruising you can hear them spinning slow.. and give it gas and you can see all the exhaust just shoot out the back ahahah little puffs.. i thought my car was going to die on me but realized with no cats at all thats the deal

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
So Ryan you gutted the pre-cats, and then had the main cats cut out as well as the resonator? U just used the defoulers on the secondarys, I wanted to cut those out too. Did you get your codes sorted out as of your last post in your build thread?

Re: downpipes and o2 sensor intel
i think i munted my front sensors/wiring removing them
yes i had a shop completely do both cats.. the fronts were gutted.. then the shop cut out the secondary cats.. and bent pipe, etc to fit where it was and welded a new bung in the same spot as the old ones for wire length
