  • DIY coilover install

    Seems simple enough..

anyone do one or just take it a shop? i don't want to insure my car just to have suspension installed.. plus i can save some bucks this way

not sure if i want to try the pinchbolt removal way or the way you work around it? both pinchbolts have been our 4x in the last 2 years from axle work so i'm sure they'd come out OK for me..

maybe i'll try removing one of the stock front struts this weekend and see how it flys

second question.. do you need that stock spring seat?? the audiworld guide the guy uses it and has to hack it up with a knife which seems stupid.. i get reusing the top cap and rubber bushing crap or i can maybe just buy new ones and preassemble them hahhaha..

    Re: DIY coilover install

Did it on the A4 when putting in the track sports it was a nice weekend project including beers took our time and only had to make a few runs to the bolt supply to pic up new bolts.

Didn't remove the pinch bolt when i did it no troubles doing it that way.

I have no idea what you are talking about the the spring seat other than having to flatten out the rear rubber thing since the springs where a flat mount now. Didn't need anything like that on the fronts.

if you check the guide on audiworld

      http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel28.shtml

the guy reuses the stock spring seat.. not sure why? then you reuse the stock dustcover/orange cover dealy..then the top spring seat (silver metal) and top rubber bushing part

maybe its easier to buy all this stuff new and preassemble them so i don't need to use a spring compressor? then i can simply toss the stock suspension into the trash LOL

        Re: DIY coilover install

Should be simple and strightforward, I did springs without removing the pinch. The first corner took me an hour and a half, the others took about 20 mins each. All bolt were torqued to spec.
I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you

You will need a spring compressor.

thx roger.. perhaps you want to help when they arrive and in return for help you can have this black plastic thing with a gauge on it back

haha you can have it soon i've been holding off since its easier to do my DPs without those stupid big spider hoses in the way back there

              Re: DIY coilover install

this for the S4 or the allroad? my shop guy quoted me hour and a half labour for each front end on the allroad, so it shouldn't be too bad to do it yourself.

                Re: DIY coilover install

s4.. its pretty straight forward it seems and i have all the tools for sure..

i'll probably just keep the front end up on jacks and as soon as i get my downpipes back in i'll start working on this at a comfortable pace
