i had my wheel bearing replaced last week. i spoke with roger about this shortly, and was wondering about other opinions.

would i need an aligment after having the rear wheel bearing replaced?

when i drive at around 90+ km/hr, the car vibrates like a mofo. you can even hear the vibration in your voice when you speak. it's pretty funny!

maybe removing the hub loosens something that could require an aligment? or maybe the bearing itself is shot?

i've had a rear one replaced and didn't need an alignment.. thats odd! did it not get pushed properly into the hub?

      Re: Vibrato

My thought was damage to the Toe adjust bolt during the removal / re-install

Also another thought is the sway bar link might be broken as they are plastic if they are stock.

          Re: Vibrato

It all depends on how the bearing was replaced. There is a special tool/press that allows to change the bearing while not having to remove the knuckle from the chassis. If the knuckle was removed, the alignment should be done to ensure a straight trac of that wheel.

            Re: Vibrato

You shouldn't need an alignment. That problem sounds like a wheel bearing problem, not an alignment problem. Perhaps they did something wrong when they installed the new bearing...

                ROFL....

sounds like the bearing or an associated part is put on off center either that or a bolt is missing in your wheel. if the rear is making so much vibration then its a serious problem.

Why wouldnt you just take it back to where you had it done and take their tech for a ride in it.

do you have Wheel Hub Centric Rings on your wheels that no one bothered to reinstall when they put back on your wheel?

usually a high speed shake is caused by an out of balanced tire. do you feel the shake in the steering wheel or in the seat of youre car?? perhaps may be a faulty wheel bearing or may not have been installed correctly. did you check to see if all youre lug bolts are tight?? and yes a hub centric ring not being put back would also cause a slight shake.

                        Re: Vibrato

it is going back, but i normally do everything myself. i dislike trusting ppl to do thins for me. it's just i don't like doing dirty maintenance items like a wheel bearing.

i'll let u know what they find. i'm not excited about having them "fix it again". :P

i didn't think i'd need an alignment, thanx for clarifying.

the steering wheel doesn't move. it's def the back wheel. and since it didn't do this before the wheel bearing, it must be that wheel.

maybe the hub centric is missing like suggested? we'll find out soon

oh yes sounds like the ring is a favorite, especially if you took it to a place that doesnt deal in nice wheels and they dont have a clue. damn them all

                            Re: Vibrato

boo.... so my driver side wheel bearing just started to go after my drive to bc because of the vibration, i guess it was on it's way out anyway..

however, answer to the vibration? the camber bolt on the passenger side was not "marked" when the shop replaced the bearing. that means they didn't have a way to keep the right camber alignment when they changed the bearing.

i discovered this because i decided to change my other bearing myself today. instead of getting the shop to do it. i didn't want to do it myself cause it's dirty work. i only enjoy the clean fun go-fast stuff
