  • Cooling Fan - Maximum warp!

After i changed my timing belt and stuff, my fan keeps turning on. dash temp and vag says 90 F (thermostat temp), but the fan turns on at around the same time.

so i was wondering, since i can't find it in my schematics. is the fan sensor hooked to a relay and the fan? (i.e. is the computer involved?)

i beleive i've read that the fan temp sensor is on the lower rad hose. perhaps i bent/damaged the sensor when i pushed a rag in the hose to prevent coolant from dripping out onto the floor when i had the rad off?

so if i did damage the sensor, would the fan stay on?

or am i chasing another sensor? or is the computer turning the fan on because i didn't plug something else in correctly?

my instinct is to change the fan switch since it's cheap and easy. but maybe someone experienced this before and it's something else.

The electric coolant fan is operated by a Fan Control Module which is located near the drivers side frame rail near the front of the car. Those have been known to fail as well. Sometimes not allowing the fan to shut off, or to come on early, or not to work at all.

i've read some reports of the module not shutting off, or coming on early.

does the fan control module have a vag-com address that i can query?

The sensor on the lower rad hose is the fan switch. You might want to clean or replace it...

can the fan control module be queried by the vag-com?

I imagine it can, but I've never tried, so I don't actually know for sure.
