Smg or not it's still an M3 with low mileage. But you could easily get the six speed manual for that price or cheaper in an 05 or 06.

Re: Tell me I shouldn't buy it...

Thanks for all the comments folks.

Really digging the '05/'06 M3's these days. Priority is, as always, low mileage. The 2 items the "Jury in my head" haven't ruled on just yet are as follows:

              1. SMG or Manual?
Have always had/driven manuals in the past and currently have the manual .:R in the stable. Figured I might "venture" into the "manu-matic" category for the first time with an SMG tranny. Have searched high and low over the internet and it seems that it is really an old school vs new school debate (go figure). People with manuals hate the SMG... and people who have tried the SMG (most who have come from manuals) end up liking it. I don't know. It appears to me to be more of a personal decision than anything. As always, perhaps the "drive it before you buy it" mantra is the best answer here.

              2. Importing a BMW?
Is anyone aware of any modifications necessary for the '05/'06 M3? I believe it has DRL's does it not? Is that the only thing that may need modification to make CAD standards? The .:R was a no-hassle affair.

Anyhow... not super serious about this affair just yet. More or less "kicking tires" if you will as the snow continues to melt outside.

              Cheers...

Re: Tell me I shouldn't buy it...

you want it as a second car?

talking with meyers from red deer he said the e46 are a bastard to mod.. they hate them.. exhaust and thats it.

i've never driven an SMG but from reading stuff on the internet and talking to people here they've had M5's and such that the SMG tanked on..

                as for importing

if i remember right you need to swap the cluster over and some other crap and bmw has to do it for you and it costs $$$ ask Chris Mc. about it as he'll know..

Re: Tell me I shouldn't buy it...

You don't need to swap the cluster, BMW will tell you that you do, but you can get a new face for about $80 bucks and it will take less than 30 minutes to install. I told a guy at work this after he imported an X5 from the US and saved him $1500.

The nice thing about E46's is that they are great cars from the start, they don't need a huge list of mods, rims, exhuast, intake, maybe a chip, headers and lower it then call it a day.

There's an '06 silver competition M3 in Sask w/ 12,400km on it for $45k. It's a little bit riced out though. Don't know if its 6sp or smg either.
