Is there any reason to keep my old Sympony Head Unit? I mean, does anyone else want it? Otherwise, it's going in the garbage. I'm not sure what the point is to keeping this thing around

Re: Symphony HU
What did you replace it with? I bought the pioneer avic x710 bt with the connects2 harness and when I hooked it all up I got a really bad hum ground loop when I turn my headlights on. It's so bad I put my symphony unit back in noises like that annoy me too much.

Re: Symphony HU
Recycle it then if you are not going to use it As for the pioneer unit (I think I should buy one like it) Try adding a couple new grounds and check your battery grounds, you should be able to solve it rather easily.Name: Brent

Re: Symphony HU
yah i have the avic 7x0 something series . don't remember which one it is. i put it in last may, so i've had this symphony hu for ever in my basement.
moosehead, did you have the bose symphony before? if so, then you have an external amp. don't hook the speaker output of the avic. use the line-outs. because the amp is hidden in the trunk i think. and you'll want to use it anyway because the amp does good crossover between the speakers.
i beleive the lineout wires on the avic are actually rca plugs. i don't remember what i did, but i most likely cut my plugs off and soldered them directly to the car's wires.
i solder everything because i'm a pimpp with a cane

what wierdo steals a door handle. i looked around the ground, it wasn't there.

Re: Symphony HU
i have a 120gb ipod plugged into the avic. works great. the avic is a nice interface for the ipod. even displays album art! i wrote a program that goes through my entire mp3 collection and downloads album art and sets proper id3 tags from google. it works for my naming convention, dunno if it'd work for u .. but u can try it: http://atomic.speculation.org/default.aspx?page=30
it's called "ID3 Tag Fixer (Version 1.0.0.0) (Last Updated: 2009)"
i also like that the avic lets u play videos off the ipod onto the screen. great feature for your butt.
also takes sd cards or a usb drive stick. i put a usb hub in the glove box. i can charge my phone or run a usb hard drive off it. i have the older version of that stereo in my svtf . it has a 100 gb hard drive also.
ryan, yah i installed it myself .. i don't use harnesses! i solder the world! shrink wrap and solder baby.
when i got the car from mark. the first thing i did is go through every wire and resolder and shrink wrap for the boost gaauge lights, water meth. and fixed the wires to the cigerette lighter and lights for the heated seat controls.
now that it's gonna warm up a bit. i'm throwing my new wideband in the car this week sometime. i don't know where it'll mount yet. might end up being in the middle vent haha.. darn it!
oh and PS, i am installing avic's 3.0 upgrade soon. i have it downloaded just haven't gotten around to it yetLast edited by aliencurv; 02-13-2010, 09:45 PM.

Re: Symphony HU
Allen I used the connects2 harness from enfig car stereo so I could retain steering wheel controls. Everything works great but when I turn my headlights on I get a serious hum from the whole system it scared the **** out of me haha it was so bad I put my symphony back in. Maybe I need to find a better grounding point. Audi makes it difficult haha
