  • Suspension Suggestions

    Hi Guys,

I am in need of a new set of rear coils, and since I am replacing those, i figured i may as well do the shocks too, and since im doing the rears i may as well do the fronts.

So I am looking for suggestions of shocks / coils or coilovers and places to get them. These will be on a 2001 S4 Sedan. Street use, not track, but a little stiffer and a slight drop wouldnt be bad. 2" is too much drop.

Eibach's Pro Kit springs, and Pro Damper shocks were the first ones i've looked at. Does anyone have these, or tried them? Quality? Ride feel?

Eibach's Pro-Street-S Coil Over Kit was a set of coilovers i also was looking at. adjustable is nice, and the 1 piece installation is nice as well, but again, has anyone tried these? hows the quality and ride feel?

Has anyone tried the H&R Sport springs?
what about the H&R Stree Perf Coilover?
    What about the Koni shocks?

Are there many pros to coilovers over spring/shock setup? maintanance? feel? lifespan?

    Thanks in advance.

i have the eibach pro springs on my car with stock struts and i love em, lowered the car nicely and handles great, ill replace struts when they eventually wear out.

i'm putting in H&R street coils.. hey if you want we could potentially buy 2 sets and get a better discount? i'll ask alex at matrix about it.

the shock/strut kits on a b5 s4 are OK but check AZ/AW the bilstein/H&R springs drop the car wayyyyy to low unless you buy those ECS sleevs at which point you shoulda just bought coilovers.

there is also a koni/vogtland spring kit but it doesn't drop it enough IMO...

coils seem the only way to go..

        Re: Suspension Suggestions

if you are driving the vehicle year round (in Calgary) I would STRONGLY suggest KW product. perfectly matched spring / dampers, true stainless steel bodies, and polymer collars. a "variant 1" set-up won't cost very much more than a quality "cup kit", and you will have height adjustability.
i've had numerous suspension set-ups over the years (H&R, Eibach, Koni, Intrax, Weitec, FK). the KW's are superior to any of them. definitely worth the $$$.

i read some horrible experiences with importing the KT. did you buy them someplace locally? Hows the longevity on them for you?

locally, they are available @ Tunerworks. The owner is quite happy with their product (they deal with a lot of high-end stuff, so that means something in itself), and convinced me to give'em a shot. I'm VERY happy that I did. I just had my front wheels off the other day (to take them for a re-balance), and I took a couple of minutes to clean-up the coils. They still look new. The collars were also able to be turned by hand.

AMImotorsports is also a large KW seller / eastern distributor, and they are in Ontario.

              eldo,

How long have you had the coils installed? Have you tried adjusting them since they were installed?

i'd say if you wash them under winter conditions you'd be OK..

really though i plan on never adjusting mine..set it to like 25" and good enough.. i think i'm still sold on H&R.. the vogtland which i used to want seem to have some clunking issues now in the rear and people are major pissed at it

i've heard the H&R shock/struts can be really stiff, are the coilovers any different? I do drive the car 90% of the year and dont want something so stiff its uncomfortable.
