not so sure about that. the coolant i had to scrape off was super burned on. wasn't a leak on mine though, just overflow from previous TB/water pump job.

doing your own TB and waterpump is pretty simple, hardest part is just getting the crap off the front of the car.

And not screwing up your timing and wrecking your engine while doing the TB install...

Coolant that burns onto your engine doesn't just disappear, you'll find the crusty trace if you've got a leak.

          that happens?

          :P

that crusty trace, is really gross. just to warn you. anything exposed to that kind of heat is going to react quite viciously, especially a liquid chemical. it's pretty nasty crust.

Heh, yeah it's crazy what some people who don't know what they're doing are capable of, eh? The only thing I'll say is that a TB job is something that people should only do if they know exactly what they're doing- none of this "trial and error" stuff.

After all the TB jobs that I've done and been around, I've never seen any problems in person, but I've read of a few horror stories, and it only takes one screw-up for a person to regret trying something that they were unprepared for.

                  *shrug*

Followed the instructors pretty carefully. you can "trial and error" the belt position well enough by doing 2 cranks. but i wouldn't trial and error it with the ignition.

to be honest, once the front end was apart, it was pretty simple. but i agree, the attention to detail and necessity of extreme caution is good advice.

My sisters A4 had the same problem with the injector o-rings when it was -30 a couple weeks ago, so i changed all of them

                      what a nice guy.

did you check the back of the car? does it say "Allroad" on it?

                      there's your problem.
