  • Allroad, how are they?

Looking to upgrade out of my 2001.5 passat wagon and looking at an Audi wagon and possible the Allroad. Is there a model year that is better than other's, what are the problems prone to the car if any?
What things should I look for...
    Thanks for veiwing.

    Re: Allroad, how are they?

    lol where to begin

well a few of us on here have them

after driving your passat the AR is a HUGE step up.. gorgeous interior, great features, top notch build

issues.. air suspension can fail .. but you can get aftermarket airbags now that have lifetime warranties on them

2.7T engine has same issues as any other S4/A6 out there so if you treat it right your fine..

brakes are a bit weak but you can upgrade them to S4 spec easily

tiptronic transmission failures via torque converter..

other than that we love ours

its the wifes car.. 100% stock and doesn't need anything else added

but oddly your passat wagon is almost as big inside as the AR is.. just an FYI
well the b5.5 for sure i know.. the backseat isn't tho

if you can which may be almost impossible now is find an 05 model like we did.. and get CPO for 2 years from the dealership still

if you don't mind going to the US you can get the 4.2 version which has the same 4.2V8 the b6/b7 s4 has just detuned to 300HP but a chip will put it back to 340hp with 0 issues at all
other issues would still apply (ie suspension and tranny)

if your lucky and get a 2.7T with a 6spd you basically have all the goodness of an s4 but in a bigger form

a member on here has a 450+ HP allroad 6spd which is really awesome

we love the little features it has like the heated rear seats.. sunshades are awesome

only thing i would love to have on it is a power rear hatch like the new audis have.. but other than that i love the thing to death.. that being said we still have 2 years warranty and the car itself only has 58000km on it now..

        Re: Allroad, how are they?

i love mine, but it DEFINITELY has issues.

dealing with the air suspension right now. but if you're a bigger person, like me, it's a great fit. i don't think i've ever fit into a vehicle as well as I have into an AR. I'm six foot six inches tall, and have a broad shouldered frame, and I have plenty of leg room, comfort room, head room.. just room!

But again, problems can arise, or deflate, as is my current problem.

yea if you can get a 4.2 i'd do that.. they were only offered in the US for fark knows why but you can import one no problem

there is actually a red 4.2 in town! pretty cool color for one IMO

I hope to god you are either going with coils or replacement bags from Arnott...they have a lifetime warranty now

                  Re: Allroad, how are they?

turns out it's a broken wire between the dash and the leveler control unit.

i WILL go arnott later, but i can't afford the bags, just registered for my classes for Cap University. Gotta pay for that first.

Arnott is actually supplying a new generation of air bags, in case anyone is interested.

Looks interesting, 200 USD more for "performance" style models. Generation II. I wonder why they don't reduce the price of the Gen I models. That'd be great!

But to follow up, the compressor is still in top shape so watch out for those.. eroding wires? I guess? Frustrating.

Still love my Allroad. Despite the damage it inflicts to my bank account. You can buy mine if you want. :P

                    haha, i totally missed this.

i could post an image of how low my leaky bag is, but you'd all groan.

                      Re: Allroad, how are they?

to follow up, it turns out the suspension CONTROL UNIT was faulty. or broken. or just retarded. something along those lines.

450 for a new one, shop only charged me an hours labour to take the car apart, rewire a loose wire, and install/program the new unit. did me a favour. i also threw a few customers their way, so.. fairs fair.

watch out for the dreaded allroad. love the car. hate the problems.
