  • troubling wheel bolt

I was taking off the wheel bolt on the s4 and the tool to remove anti theft bolts broke and stripped the bolt at the same time. i tried drilling it out and using an easy out but drilling stainless steel without a drill press blows any ideas on how to remove the other bolts... fyi vw and audi didn't have the tool either

weld a nut onto them and do it that way? other than that find the proper tool or you are hooped!

OUCH! you could try drilling it out..

you may be able to get some pliers on it but i doubt you can get it off with your hands

        Option1:

Wheel/tire shops would do it for you.

        Option2:

Get the lock socket from the manufacturer - it would take number of days for delivery.

I hear those gator grip type sockets work well on those.

              Re: troubling wheel bolt

pound a crappy socket on there that's just slightly smaller than the bolt. Impact gun should be able to spin it off. That said if you want to do all 4 wheels, you might need to buy 4 super cheap sockets. I had to do this on my old MKIII when it didn't come with the proper tool for the bolts and it worked fine.

drilling through stain less steel is tricky you need to go on about 400 rpm and lots of oil the problem is applying pressure evenly
and one of the bolts the sleeve and the pattern are broken/stripped

Using heat or welding will discolor the rim around that area. I would use that technique as a last resort. Snap-on has an excellent extractor kit for that purpose, but only if the outer ring around the pattern is still there. If the locking bolt is destroyed around the outer perimeter then this tool would render it useless. Then hammering on a socket of anything close to that size would be your next best bet. If this doesn't work, then you would either have to have it drilled , or weld a socket on it.

P>S> I hate locking wheel bolts, especially on stock wheels. What is the need....honestly. Who steals stock wheels still!? I have to deal with those f*ckers everyday.
