Re: anybody own a b5 a4?
whats your budget?
your only going to be finding quite high mileage ones nowadays.. 99.5-01 is your best bet. the 1.8ts have fake leather back in those days and the 2.8 v6 had real leather and real xenon lights
if you can afford it look at a b6 instead.. they are quite cheap nowadays too but then again some have high mileage..
if you see any 1.8ts for sale with say 90-110k on them.. i gaurantee the owner is getting rid of it so they don't have to pay for the timing belt to be done as its about 1300bucks or so depending on the shop of course

thanks for the other info, i didn't realize some of those things. however, i do want the 1.8t, and not the 2.8.

my main concern now is 1.8t vs 2.8. i know the 2.8 isn't really the vr6, its a true v6 as far as i know, but what kind of numbers could i be expecting from them slightly modified? i don't want huge power right now, just quick. i've also heard that the 2.8s do not take to turbos well.
lastly, anybody know someone with a b5 that would wanna trade? :P

Re: anybody own a b5 a4?
if your looking to modify the car go with a 1.8t forsure, the 2.8 will have more jam out of the box obviously, but they performance is hindered because its n/a, it 200hp stock which isn't bad if you dont plan on modifying but i personally would perfer the 1.8t.Kevin

Re: anybody own a b5 a4?
The V6 is nice, but yeah the tuning is limited. You can supercharge it, but your looking at about 5k-10k. Doesn't take well to turbos. There is a chip for the Transmission, if auto, and for the Engine but doesn't do a whole lot but keeps the power feeling a little better. Not much overall big change. Definitely change the exhaust though as it seems pretty restrictive exhaust.
But if you want to tune, definitely go with the 1.8T. Much more tunable.2011 Jetta TDI

Re: anybody own a b5 a4?
yeah i looked around. the v6s don't take well to turbos at all, really expensive. and there is really only one thing to do to them and thats supercharge them. cool, but again very expensive. i've decided upon the 1.8t, now i just gotta find someone that wants to trade! or find someone to sell my car to. if anyone knows anyone who has an a4 they might be willing to trade for a 4dr 1.8t golf thats slightly modified (could also be stock), please pm me!
