  • Drag Wars - Done

i went off to terace bay from my cabin. two hour drive away. sadly, there is no Rogers Cell service so i couldn't get on the internet to download a virtual com port to get lemmiwinks rock'n on my usb cable.

i ended up running straight 113 on the 104 tune. i also need to drive the 2,200 km back home to calgary eventually so i didn't want to launch hard.

i launched at around 2,500 rpm . i don't drop the clutch, just ease the clutch out and the throttle in. my 60 ft's were averaging 2 seconds, so u know i wasn't launching too hard. my lowest time was 12.7 and my fastest time was 12.2. however, i missed 2 shifts in the 12.2 run so i could have hit a 11. that was becuase it was only 12 degrees outside! freeeeeezing

so on my last run i hurt something .. i think it's the pressure plate. but before i try to guess, i need to find out what the clutch setup in my car is. mark will tell me i hope .

my clutch now fully engages at about 1 cm from the floor. i also can't "easily" shift into reverse, 1st or 2nd if the car is running.

i'm going to throw it on my friends hoist this week and feed the scope in through the starter hole to look at it? or is there a better place?

also, if it's not the pressure plate then perhaps there is an adjustment for the clutch? and perhaps i just pushed it in.

I'm guessing you still have the same clutch that I sold him:
VAST stage 3 Ceramic/organic hybrid clutch with RS4 PP

It could very well be your PP unless your slave cylinder went or you got air in the system.

if my slave cylinder went, would i be squirting out fluid?

after thinking, i have a hard time visualizing that the pressure plate is broken because the clutch is always engaged. if the PP was broken then i would have expected the clutch to never engage.

      maybe i bent the fork?

        Not necessarily.

The PP can fail and the clutch still engage. Perhaps you bent a finger or two on the PP. It's also possible you bent the fork.

I guess you'll just have to pull the tranny and find out. Unless of course you get part-way into the job and find out that the clutch slave or MC has failed.

i know that confusion would happen, becuase it's the opposite of what you'd expect. so i'm trying to clarify but "my clutch barely disengages".

leads me to beleive it's the master or slave cylinder or fork

I know what you're describing, but the clutch is engaged by default. If the RS4 PP has failed, then you will barely be able to disengage the clutch, if at all.

ah okay. well we'll throw a scope in there and see if it's pressure plate or the slave cylinder.

can i buy pressure plates from u seperately or do i need to buy both?

I can get you the PP separately if you need it, it doesn't have to come as a complete clutch kit. I can pretty much get anything you need.

Wow! 12.2 is pretty damn good. What was the trap time? What was the elevation?

It is indeed the VAST ceramic and the RS4 PP.... Hopefully its not one of the RS4 PP problems that you hear so much about......

I don't think you hear about too many problems with the RS4 PP relative to the huge number of them that are in use...

BTW, I googled that track, and it's at about 900 feet elevation...

                        that's right, 900 ft.

i could have hit a high 11 on my last run of 12.2, but i missed two shifts :( . if i hit an 11 they'd kick me off becuase i don't have a roll cage, even though i have a billion air bags lol. it was only 15 degrees out and it had rained all weekend so the engine was very responsive and eager.
