Pretty stressful, actually. And it only happens with the explicit permission of the owner.

How long does it usally take to tune a car like this? What is the best way to tune it a vag or lemmix?

AFAIK, they log via ECU-X, then make changes at VAST via whatever software writer.

So if I wanted to buy a ECU-X I could do all my own tuning or is this not the best of idea's in less you have the knowledge? Does it take much time to do the tuning or is like a 20 min type of thing? Will ECU-X work for my new S4?

ECU-X only logs what your car is doing.
You can't change any of the ECUs programming with it.

ECU-X is for logging only.. actual tuning software is a whole different ballgame. (and can be pricey) You take the logs from ECU-X, and then change parameters using other tuning software. (Typically in-house only)
Besides changing some basic values with Lemmiwinks, I beleive Eurodyne has released their own tuning software.. but its $900. A few people have played around with ME-7 on QW and AZ.. maybe search around there.

                  dogbreath,

Tuning a car is pretty much a process of trial and error (whether street or dyno-tuning). You take a log and make a change to the tune. Then you re-log to see how close to ideal the new tune is. Then if you want to make another change, you can repeat the process as many times as you want until you feel that the tune is ideal. ECUx will work on your car, but that will only show you what your car is doing, you cannot change the tune with that software. Tuning a car can take anywhere from 1 hour to several hours, depending on how "perfect" you want the tune to be.

The thing that keeps most people from tuning their car is not the cost of the code-writing software, it's the knowledge that is required. You DEFINITELY need to have a solid understanding of the base maps within the program before you start messing with them.

So then in theory this car should be on the road in a couple of weeks?

I think from all the info that I have found out about tunning I am going to leave it to the profesionals and not try it myself.

                      Yeah, in theory.

My full-time university commitments and my little baby might interfere with that theory, though, but we'll see

Did some work on it this last Saturday. It's half-way done. It's mid-term week this week, so it probably won't get finished completely until next Saturday.

Maybe describe the car a bit more? Was it loud? tint? lowered etc? (and where on Deerfoot)
