story starts in edmonton
my brother in law bought a suv from calgary and asked if i can drive him to pick it up since i had the day off work... i grab my brothers vast stage 3 s4 (since he is in euro and will never know), load up my tools just in case and head down to calgary. after passing red deer i noticed the battery light some on, i pull over and check the voltage across the battery.... 12.5 volts..... conclusion alternator isn't charging but battery is full. so i decide to keep driving and in calgary i'll replace the alternator. i turn off anything that needed power and kept driving. i make it to calgary around 4 and head down deer foot to a canadian tire i had picked out on the gps.... low and behold the car dies in the left lane in rush hour, but with the momentum i had i made it to the right shoulder. yada yada yada.... tow truck drives me to a napa that had an alternator half an hour before it closes. i buy the alternator only to realize that i forgot my socket set at home the guy at napa let me borrow what ever tools i needed to get it done then closed up and told me to leave the tools in the alternator box with the core at the receivers door.
but i don't get the tools i need to remove the fan cover which is the only thing left to get the alternator off...... few hours later i give up and tow the car to the glenmore audi dealership
where it gets a new alternator the next day
tow trucks make good jacks
props to the tow truck driver and the napa for all their help
