  • 8.5 1/8th and booost leak

i ran a 8.5 on the 1/8th in kelowna on saturday . they have a pretty interesting setup there . the staging is on a little bit of a hill so you roll back at the lights with clutch in . so i had to launch with the e-brake which is was a bit distracting .

anyway. at some point during the 3 runs, i ended up with a boost leak . now i gotta trace that down tomorrow . blah!

What does 8.5 translate in terms of 1/4 mile estimation??

Best I ran with the old clutch was 13.1@ 111 with no launch. (2.3 I believe?) and found out later a boost leak... but on VP109

hopefully your leak is an easy one to find. I have one so bad that the engine is coming out again in the next couple weeks :(. Both Jordan and I could not find the damn thing but we think it's coming off the passenger side wastegate...BRUTAL!

I usually do a pressure test every once in a while... which is the easiest way to find out.. (Still have Rogers pressure tester at my place) as for wastegates.. thats a different story!

i wonder if i should do one then..

once i replace my DVs this week i'll see how she goes

            I get -10 driving
            -22 gas to coasting
            -18 idle

boost to 15-17 with major buzz carnage LOL

Re: 8.5 1/8th and booost leak

I can boost up to 10psi no problem but anything over that and it surges like crazy...when I do a pressure test I can hear massive amount of air leaving the system but it's in a spot that I can't pinpoint or actually feel the air leaving. It sounds like it's coming from the turbo area on the passenger side though.

Did you blow thru the wastegate lines individually? and listen for the crack at 6-8psi?

mark, i sent u a txt on friday about the cable . i put it in my mailbox but when i got back in town it's still there.

i know i have a boost leak because my fuel trims are wacky (#32 measure blocks for fuel adaptation). my bank 1 is between 3.9 and 4.9 percent. bank 2 is between 2 and 3 percent. changing as i drive. also, the turbo is suddenly very loud. lots of swoooooooosh noises. and the last reason is because it's having trouble holding boost, it jumps to 17 psi and creeps up to 20 then bounces a bit. it's also very jerky at WOT but i'm not seeing any misfires.

edit: the guys are saying that an 8.5 at 90 mph is about a high 11 or low 12.

                  with water meth enabled i ran a 9.6... disabled i ran 8.5.

No I didn't, and didn't know you could do that. How would I go about it?

Seperate the T at the back of the motor one end should go to the N75 and the other 2 should go to each wastegate line then add pressure down each line by itself. You should hear a click/thunk noise at around 6-8psi if it takes more pressure than that you might have a leak in your wastegates.

Can't remember if its the line coming out of the back or bottom of the N75 tho.

Yeah, I havent had the time to run over and grab it.... maybe this week. I still have a CEL to figure out!! (Think it was a small leak I found last weekend.. but CEL is still there)
I wonder with the jerkyness if the Diverter valves need to be lubed again.. other then that a pressure test is a good idea. Do you have a compressor at home? I still have Rogers pressure tester if you want to try that out.

Were those times on racegas? Car shouldnt be mear those numbers with pump fuel...Im still suprised by the Meth numbers though.. maybe it is coming on a little early. You should try it on with the race program and watch the knock.. we might be high enough that it works fine.

filed up with 94 but can't drive hard as my 710s are crap

it'd be good to know if it's the diverter valves.. if you have rogers pressure tester then we can plan a time to test, around your schedule. the only night/day i work this week is wed . so thurs or fri or this weekend is good with me .

i can always take a trip to red deer and use the pressure tester there . otherwise i might have to harass paul at berts and take him up on that beer

Unfortunately I am out of town from Thursday-Monday.. so that wont work. If you want you can always head to home depot and make one using AWE's instructions on their site. Rogers is just a whole lot more complex..., but does the same thing.
