what spark plug gap are you stage 3 s4's running?

i notice the ngk's come gapped at 0.40 .. i usually run 0.29 on my high output boosted engines .

anyone know what an optimal gap is for these badboys?

Get 2 sets and index them.

lol a spark plug gap dream? that sounds dirty . now u have to tell us!

i gap'd them at .030 .. 1 or 2 miss fires while cruising but it all held together just fine . i'm using the BKR7E's instead of the 6's ..

            Re: Spark Plug Gaps

I use BK7RE's and gapped them to .28, you could say i'm Stage 3+ but I don't have an S4 heh.

                Re: Spark Plug Gaps

well i'm back to the drawing board .

i gap'd to .030 like i said . car ran great . went for dinner then a cruise . about 20 km of cruising and it started misfiring again . it's counting misfires on cylinder 6 .

i have replaced the coil packs that were giving me misfires . not sure if the one on #6 is a new one (will check tomorrow) . but the misfires are throwing me into limp . blaah!

                new plugs today .

dunno what else to try yet . blaah!

edit: it only misfires at WOT in full boost (~23-25 psi) above 4k rpm in both the 91 and 93 octane tunes

Best thing to do is vacumn test the engine, possible weak valve spring, coil pack or engine sludge.

                    Re: Spark Plug Gaps

The factory gap works just fine, just make sure to use your spark plug gap tool and uniform the gap on all plugs.

Your misfire is probably caused by the plug gap, a small boost leak, or else your tune's ignition timing is too aggressive for the fuel you're running (is it only with this tank of gas, or has it happened over more than one tank?).

                      Re: Spark Plug Gaps

dunno what the stock gap is, but the BKR6E's were gapped to 0.040 which is ridiculous for a boosted app, even stock . i'm running BKR7E's now gapped at 0.030

these misfire's have been going on for a while now . they come and go . if i take the coilpack off and put it back on, then it'll be fine for 20 km or so ... then it'll start misfiring again .

today i swapped the coil packs of 6 and 5 .. 6 was the one that was misfiring last night . now i'm misfiring on #5 .. which means it must be the coil pack .

argh i've gone through 3 coil packs in a month .. could the dwell on the apr tune be too long? i'm sure others would have experienced this problem .. so instead i must suspect it's valid failure of the coilpacks

                          Re: Spark Plug Gaps

i replaced the coilpack and tonight was the first day in forever that i didn't have any misfires at WOT . so that's 4 coil packs in total i had to replace all within a few weeks. it was hard to diagnose them all lol!

on another positive note. concept1 fixed my rear spacer/wheel issue. they replaced the spacers and remounted my wheels free of charge. i guess the bolts that came with the one spacer was too long originally. they did a good job.

i also think i'm getting a pretty good price from them on the coilpacks. $52 for the cp.. sound good to u guys?
