  • Hmmmmm Local 420whp A4??

    http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ125768839

Something doesnt sit right with this.... 420 on a stock engine (build and displacement) is damn near impossible.. especially to drive for four years.

Anyone know/hear anything about this car?

Im not sure what the specs are of Doms setup.. but it sure isnt a stock engine or displacement. Let alone on a 'Mika tune' yikes.

yea.. thats from the show at UofC last year.. both it and the S4 next had bad (IMO) bumper cutups for intercoolers..

Unless he is leaving out the engine rebuild mods.. I'd venture to say 420 whp on 4cyl is near impossible. Most stick with a 300whp limit for stock internals... Maybe Das Auto can chime in here... Ive been out of the 1.8T game for a while. (The reason why APR wouldnt do a race gas program for a 3+)

that car is fast, but as discussed, it has some issues.
lawrence built it on stock internals, and was seeing what he could put together. (if i remember correctly, this was during the process of picking up SPA product, K-sport, etc. it was basically the test car)

anyhow, i had talked to him about it at length, as i was building a similar motor in my mk2. his description was "its a timebomb. its making huge power, and isnt built to take it. it will last just fine if driven properly, and the boost turned down, but as it sits now, its just a matter of time."

that being said, it has been running strong for years now, and is fast as hell. John may very well have made some changes to add reliability. he is a qualified mechanic, and he has access to all the parts he needs.

I guess that explains it. The 420whp must have been a quick dyno run.. then had the boost turned down.

thats pretty savage for stock internals. i thought 303whp with a gt28 build was pretty nutz on an a4, 420 seems crazy!

The K03's (and some of BW's other turbos) are definitely ticking time bombs, but your engine itself is built like a panzer tank.

Yeah, thats Johns A4 from Calgary Autowoks. Very fast and in nice shape. He doesn't normally drive on high boost. In fact he rarely does. I haven't even seen him kick the **** out of it yet either. He was with us on the Kananaskis "shred" and he just stayed near the back, away from any potential trouble.... This motor did in fact pull a 420 WHP on the dyno at his shop. Makes crazy HP on high boost. I told him I didn't even think this was possible with a 1.8T. After all, its only a four cylinder, and a small displacement one at that. These engines are built tough though. Its usually the stock turbos that fail, or the timing belt if they are not changed at appropiate intervals.

It says Mika Tuned... which is ATP's software.. which has the reputation of being less then stellar...and more then likely not SPA turbo specific.
