Yup, that's the sound, only happens on cold starts, the rest of the time it just takes up space. Completely unnecessary if you have no cats

get out of my thread with that nonsense and tell me where to buy some vacuum tubing!

PS - our allroad is doing that now too...and REALLY loud. It just sucks because after taking it off the S4 I can't see how you could do it with the engine in the car...

Cdn Tire, Part Source, Auto Value, NAPA. They carry fuel line, coolant line, and even real vacuum line if you so desire. The only thing that might be a challenge is finding the correct size.

Re: Opinions needed from S4 group

NAPA main branch carries all those sizes of tubing, but as stated earlier, for something that just wont tear or break, go with SS braided and fittings, most likely also available there, PS for those who care, they stock NGK BKR7E copper plugs $3.25 per

Re: Opinions needed from S4 group

Auto Value carries 7's for $2.79, for some reason they only stock 4 though. Convinced them to change their order control to carry more. Try the one on Macleod and Heritage...

The alternator isn't hard to replace later if it dies. No need to replace it while the engine is out, unless of course you have a few hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket...

instead of replacing the alternator replace the voltage regulator in the alt.

It just depends what part of the alternator is failing. If the brushes are getting worn out, then replace the VR, if the bearing in the pulley is starting to have excessive play, you need to replace the entire alt.
