    Re: Overboooooost

Got the new car last week.. and so far so good. (BUt as other S4 owners have piped in.. it doesnt last forever!)

DJ: Jordan has helped me in the past with a few issues.. and he certainly beats taking it into a garage.
I believe the VAG com can measure requested vs. actual boost... so that may be worth a shot. I typicaly saw from 21-23lbs....

VAG usually is insufficient by itself to truly diagnose most problems. If you REALLY want to know what's going on with the car, it needs to be logged and a couple of other tests performed.

        Re: Overboooooost

i made a voltage and binary datalogger a years ago . so i hooked that up to a few sensors to see what the voltage readers were on the senders, and to see if the solenoids were triggering.. they indeed were.

the bolt that is threaded in place of the nozzle is not leaking . i put a few squirts of silicon on the bolt before inserting it. it's making a great seal. i put a peice of duct tape over it that will show if it leaks at all. because the area where the air comes out will raise that part of the tape. it's a little trick i learned diagnosing boost leaks . you just have to make sure the duct tape is on perfectly flat and don't do multiple peices over lapping. just one peice over the area you are concerned about .

so i took off the solenoid and it was grimey and dirty . i sprayed it with brake cleaner and put it back on . i also tightened a few hose clamps (they loosen over time).

i took it for a drive after cleaning the solenoid and my boost is back between 20 and 23 psi .

        conclusion: dirty sticky solenoid

By solenoid I'm assuming you mean the N75 valve (boost control solenoid)?

                  Re: Overboooooost

agh it's baaaaaaack. but not over boost . so i'm boosting to 20 psi and spike at 22-23. but it's either a spark blow out/misfire or detonation . when it occures, the check engine flashes and then it goes soft limp for a few seconds (5 psi max) .

mark, how old are the spark plugs?

Might be your first coil pack failure now you know what the real Audi experience feels like!!

Remember to always carry at least 1 spare coil pack with you at all times.

                      Re: Overboooooost

Spark plugs were changed last summer... suppose they couldnt hurt to be swapped again.
So its either that or Coilpack. Time to learn the coilpack dance!!
There were extra coilpacks in that Rubbermaid container.. not sure the condition as they were in there when i got the car. Concept 1 has good prices on them though.

(Check VAG or something similiar to see which cylinder is misfiring, then swap that coil with another... then you will see if its the pack or the plugs.)

They have the BERU coilpacks... cheaper then OEM.. and I havent noticed a difference with them.

                            vag-com doesn't seem to like my car . i'm running a www.sensolutions.com usb adapter .

any ideas? the interface of this app doesn't give me a feeling of stability and reliability

Do you have the correct COM port selected in Vag Com? Or have you tried other USB ports as i know one of mine on my the laptop doesn't work for Vag but works fine for everything else.
