  • Tire weight

So it's time for new rubber for my one, I have been looking at 4 different brands. The biggest thing I have noticed is tire weight.

    My stock tires at 100lbs
    Bridgestone re-11 are 106 lbs
Pilot sport 2 are a crazy 90 lbs

Is adding or reducing weight for rubber overall better or worse or willit make any difference at all.

I was Hoping to reduce my overall car weight, but the tires I want the most are the heaviest..

Any feed back would be great

With dinnan stage 2 don't even worry about it, get some lighter rims to make up for it or ditch your spare tire if you have one. Pull the back seat out?

I have never seen a 19lbs rubber tire anywhere... Or are you talking rim Ryan...

Reggie says get new rimz, stock rims weigh almost 60lbs with rubber because of them being cast.

            OZ's?

                  Re: Tire weight

Im not getting new rims... I kinda like them. even know there heavy..

My main concern is rubber weight... I hate run flats #1 so i was hoping to get a non run flat tire that is way better in the performance area.. I just did not think i was going to make things heavier rather lighter...

My only option for getting a bad ass tire is the new PS2 10lbs lighter over all...

The rest of the tires are heavier then my stock runflats... i always thought run flats were heavier in every way over non run flats..

                    OP

No matter what you choose you're going to rave about the increase in grip over stock (Contis?) tyres. Weight be damned. That is, until you're going tracking ... in which case, an average Hoosier (17"/18") will tip the scales at about 20-23 lbs per tyre. So seeing that road skins about the same... who cares about a pound or two per corner? Something like an Optima lightweight battery can offset extra rubber weight and still decrease overall mass. Cheap too. Overall it's not going to make/break you either, looks like there's plenty of power underfoot

Heavier tyres may ride quieter too (just a guess). I absolutely love my Potenza RE050A Pole Positions. Planted in the wet, quieter than OEM Michelins. They're very grippy up to their limit, and they gently let you know when you're going past it. Even taken them camping no less than five times down logging/reserve, even a ways off-road and had no complaints to date. Just swap 'em out when it's getting below 3*C because they won't get up to temp enough to grip.

Coming up on their third season this year and I expect another full one next year. So far about 25,000 km on them through two seasons, and after this summer I expect another, no sweat. If I don't go with the new RE11 it'd be Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta or Nokain ZG2 (maybe Z).
