B5 S4 - door handle cable problems

I made the mistake of commenting to George the other day that my car was presently "perfect". The next day, when getting out of my car, I pulled on the door handle to open the door and it "clicked" and I felt something give. Now, it's a bit loose (has some play in it), but it still works.

I vaguely remember something similar happening in my MKIV Golf. I'm expecting to have to remove the door card and have not really looked at it to see how. Any thoughts on the proper fix to this? Hints on removing the door card?

If its like the mkIV VWs, then you don't have to remove the door card to adjust the tension on the handle. Just pop off the access cover on the side of the door, loosen off the retainer screw for the lock/cover plate next to the handle, remove the lock/cover piece and the the cable locks into the side of the handle. Just pull it back a couple notches until the tension seems right.

Well i am assuming this is the internal door handle? There is a Tech write up on replacing the interior door handle for the A4/S4 on Audiworld i have also heard of people replacing just the spring that holds the door handle as it comes off and then the handle is loose but still works.

yea my driver side handle is a bit wobbly.. i tried to fix when i did my trim install but couldn't figure it out and just live with it but i need to replace it someday
