the screwdriver trick should work do you have a BIG flat headed one? that should be strong enough.. although lack of space in the long 1.8t bay :/
Haha, I did. It's not like I bent the wrench putting it on. Oil on threads. Snug. 1/4 turn.

I put the biggest, meanest looking flat screwdriver we had into it and used a small pipe wrench. Bent the screwdriver to blazes.

Seriously getting choked now guys... time to call in backup?

(Think of how awkward of a call to AoC that will be... umm, I crushed my oil filter and can't drive.)

      Re: Oil Change from Hell!

Wow must give props to Southgate Audi Service Tech Chris... he answered my phone call with my synopsis of my situation in good humour and offered some good advice.

He said to cut the filter off (using a chisel and hammer) and then pry the base plate off the block to loosen it at the threads. Word is the filter should come off as such. He said if that doesn't work to have it towed in and they can have me making tracks today.

      Wish me luck!

      EDIT:

Phoned Audi Roadside and had to beg the guy on the line to not charge me, he said that the car was out of warranty so I was liable for the fees, but I used my charm and phrases to have it 'on the house.' I asked him if, in the effort of goodwill, they would tow me for free because I'm trying to get home for the holiday season. Said that I wasn't charged any of the previous times I was towed and asked if he'd just push it through in the spirit of the season. He relented.

Waiting three hours for a tow now. Could be worse, I could be outside in the -30C!

EDIT: I don't have a pipe wrench or set of water-pump pliers (channel-locks) big enough to do the job.

Considering calling in a tow first thing in the AM.

          Last call?
Forget about that hole, it just let's you see the flywheel and clutch. That is one of the dirtiest areas in the car. Clutch dust sucks, you don't have to worry about contamination there.

Sucks about the overtightened filter. Good luck.

I would be very careful if you're going to heat it up. I wouldn't use a torch, but would use a heat gun instead. Go to crappy tire and buy a set of channel lock pliers.

              $180 at the stealership.

It took three guys to take the damn thing off.
