  • k04 on b5 S4

I currently have a 2001 S4. I've got an aftermarket 3" exhaust from cats back. I've replaced the DVs, but otherwise stock engine. I am thinking of doing some upgrades and wondering of any good places to get the parts if i do myself?

Does anyone know the cost to buy a set of k04 turbos for the 2001 S4 (including studs, gaskets bolts, inlet pipes)? I already have upgraded DVs and exhaust post cats is there anything else i should look at doing when i replace this?

Will I also need to replace the Cat converters at the same time with high flow versions? If I replace them should I go withany preferred brand as to reduce issues with O2 sensors?

Should I replace the fuel injectors with a higher flow version as well? Any preferred brand if so?

    Thanks.

    I'll bite...

K04's, along with the neccessary hardware come to about 2800usd for a good deal...(check AW for specials posted from shops) To get full potential you need a fueling kit which will cost another 2000ish, then add on a clutch for 900, and install. (Big $$)
All in all.. you are looking close to I'd guess 6-8k. You an get cheaper fueling if you do a homebrew solution.. but its best to stick with a major brand unless you have experience.

You can always stay with stock fueling.. or get the 3- software to use stock injectors and MAF. (Possibly ask Nothing77 about his)
Depending on the software, you may be able to completely cut out the cat's without throwing codes...

For everything you need 'The Jerbel' is a good place to start.. he can get everything you need from VAST and possibly even do the swap!

There are a few of us Stage 3's around town if you need some motivation to get this done.. its fun giving rides to people who have never been in one!

My personal opinion is to do the fueling at the same time as the turbos, although GIAC offers a 3- tune, it is less than perfect. I have been fighting throttle cut and lumpy boost graphs with my tune
I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you

        Re: k04 on b5 S4

You'll want to do turbos and inlets, fueling, clutch setup, and dp's (piggie pipes are by far the best bang for your buck, short of making them yourself), and upgraded mounting points (motor mounts, tranny mounts, snub mount, diff mount, etc.)

VAST writes a very good 3- code, BTW. But if you can afford to get fueling and go full stage 3, by all means, it's cheaper in the long run, and much more impressive .

whatever would keep it the most reliable afterwards is my goal. If im having throttle cut issues, or idle issues, then I'd rather spend the money up front and fix it right then worry about fiddling with issues later.

What fun is the car if its always broken right?

If thats what you are looking for.. go full stage 3. You might have to pay a pretty penny to get the car to its fullest.. but I think its more reliable afterwards.. that is if you treat it well.

              Re: k04 on b5 S4

I agree with Mark...if you're looking for overall reliability, with the added bonus of more power, go full stage 3 right off the bat. You can even request a "less aggressive" tune which will help even more in the reliability aspect. Like Ryan said, you will be tinkering non-stop with a 3- setup and it's only about 1k more to go full fueling (which on a bill of 7 or 8k isn't much imo). If you want a ride in a "girly" Stage 3 tip, let me know

                Canuck,
If a good, solid, reliable, aggressive car is what you want, then you definitely want to go full stage 3. There's NO car on the market that even competes with a stage 3 S4 for the price. 4 doors, 4 wheel drive (AWD), 500 hp, cushy but sporty interior. All for $20-35k, depending on if you build up a car or just buy a car that's already stage 3. I just sold my highly tuned stage 3 S4 for $20k.

Send me an email and I can take care of you. I think a few of these guys will agree that my prices are more than fair.

Did that new meth controller fix your issues? What's the latest and greatest with the meth kit?

Ugh... still no dice. Ive been working with D.O. on this though... right now it looks like Im not getting enough V from the MAP sensor, causing the pump to stay on full once there is power hooked up.. MAP is maybe three weeks old, and my car runs like a champ, Im pretty lost with it all...

Have you put a voltmeter on it? I would think that if the MAP sensor is putting out the correct voltage, then the controller needs a smaller resistor or something of that nature...

I have... and I am getting lower then what they think it should be, and what the controller would see it at. Funny part is the MAP is less then a month old.. and car runs strong at the correct boost profile...
nothing77 is going to check his later on to see what he gets...
