  • help please...stripped wheel bolt hole

    as the title says..

Had a buddy help me put on my wheels.. long story short he cross threaded, and decided to use my impact while i went on a beer run.. such a helpful ****ing guy .. anyways i get back with my Heine' after restraining my self from having a road pop and he says " the bolt wont bite, i dont think its long enough"... sure enough i pull it out and all the nice little Audi threads come pouring out...

basically what the hell can i do?
Can i have it tapped and re-threaded, or do i have to buy a new hub assembly?

If it's not SUPER f@cked, you should be able to have it re-threaded...but if the damage is done, I'm not sure what options you have other than replacing.

PS - one more reason why I NEVER use an impact on wheels...always tighten by hand to proper torque

you probably have to buy a new hub

i'm sure however you could rock 4/5 bolts and be fine

Re: help please...stripped wheel bolt hole

I'd likely consider wheel hub replacement...

        Or one could try:

        1. A thread insert.
        or
        2. Weld=> re-bore, re-thread

        Think safety!

        Good luck..

yeah i figured hub replacement.. thanks guys.. and i never impact my wheel bolts, but i was using it on the rear subframe so it was out... im going to convert to a stud kit. i hate Audis wheel bolt system

That is probably the best/smartest solution ...I've contemplated doing the same.

why studs? i had those on my old gangster 86 buick regal.. it is easier to put wheels on thats for sure

what you need are those fancy race hubs with the c clip that holds the wheel on!

well that way the worst thing that can happen is a stripped or rounded stud. its not painful to go buy a new one.. but with a bolt system you can strip your bolt holes.. my situation.. and have to shell out 300 for a new hub assembly

                  Torque to 90lb/ft.

Sorry to hear about that man, and fwiw, I'd try tapping it and re-threading first.
