VAG-COM Issues

ok so i have one of those ebay cables that lets you run vag-com 409. this was fine with my old laptop, until the black screen of imminent hard drive failure, replaced the hard drive only to get the blue screen of death as well. the new laptop is running vista, so checking with az and aw to run 409 as an administrator is supposed to work. tried it and it worked the first time, but it doesn't seem to work anymore.

any suggestions and solutions?

i forgot to mention, i can hit the test and it finds the interface and port and everything checks out, except connecting to the ecu.
