B5 S4 Mileage?

Hey, what kind of mileage are you guys getting on your S4's?

I'm hovering between 12 and 13 L/100km which comes out at around 350km/tank. I know I've got a love of acceleration, but this is waaaay worse than my 1.8t Golf had (around 550 km/tank).

Is this just the "price of power", or have I got something out of adjustment somewhere?

if i drive nice i can get 480-500ish a tank and thats shifting below 3gs or around 3gs

if i have a spirited week which is alot lately.. 400ish-450/tank

this week i got 380 a tank as i boosted alot

god damn gas guzzler

the cluster average says 10.2 but no idea if thats accurate

I agree with Ryan...the car is good on gas if you can keep your foot out of it...but we all know that doesn't happen very often . I get around 450 driving good, but probably average closer to 400.

Hmmm, so if I'm not getting "normal" mileage, where do I start to look? My foot isn't in it 100% of the time as I'm usually sitting in traffic. I tend to drive in manual mode with my tip and shift around 3k, may be a touch higher. I like to drive around 2500-2800 rpm....as the tip mode always dumps me to 5th and drags the car below 2000 rpm.

I've got that "police siren" sound that the dealer tech said was "normal"....somehow I doubt that.

No CEL at all. And I'd assume that when Glenmore has it in for service, they do a scan, so I'm also assuming it's not throwing any codes.

Should I start looking for boost leaks? Any other thoughts?

Do a boost leak test, check the spark plugs. Run some injector cleaner through the car and if the fuel filter hasn't been done in a while, replace it.

Police siren when boosting, if loud and distinct, means the turbos are on their last legs.

oh yea... i'm doing my plugs when i do the TB too lol

i did however get really gooood mileage this year i went from jasper through edmonton.. stopped and did some crap in edmonton and went all the way to red deer on 1 tank.. the light came on just a few KMs before red deer.. i thought that was pretty good.. i think i got 640ish or 620

BIG THANKS to Jordan for having a look / listen at my car.

I guess I'm a car-hypochondriac as it's all good. "Siren noise" was just normal boost noise. He even did a pressure test for me and it held great.

Big thumbs up to a great guy.


Now I just need to look at the rest of his suggestions re plugs / fuel filter.
