      Re: 135i pricing

Granted I didn't get much time there but I really liked the 1 series, I also thought it looked better in pictures and liked the interior etc. but agree in that price range there are a lot of things to choose from. Not something I could own for quite a while anyway.

Can you get a base Cayman for 50? Seems low.

Did someone get a price on the clubman? I forgot to look

        Re: 135i pricing

I am all up on the Clubman info (spend a lot of time on the configurator )

        Cooper Clubman starts at $26,400
Cooper Clubman S starts at $31,500

The way I like it optioned is around 35K which puts it into competition with things like the GTI 4-door and such, and the use of space is kind of strange in it, but still like it, and in the small car category it is in a very different league compared to a Fit or Yaris.

I also did not check out the 135 too much (spent a lot more time with the Mini's) but it basically comes down to the fact you are buying an engine/drivetrain and the rest is along for the ride. Was really not a fan of the red/grey interior with horrible wood trim though.

Yea I didn't really like the colour of the interior but it felt really nice so depending on what's out there for choices I think it could be nice.

BTW, is it just me or is woodgrain making a huge comeback??

I think maybe Calgary dealerships order the woodgrain option for showroom cars thinking that it will add extra luxury to otherwise poor interiors. And they're wrong!

There was a lot of woodgrain though.

I liked it, but there seems to be a crossover/suv (etc) vehicle like that out every couple of years... they look super hot for 6 months and then you get used to them being around, and stop noticing.

                            Re: 135i pricing

I must admit, I am seriously considering this ride.

                            ...Yes... there's a ...but...

Around $55,000 once you've added in a few bells and whistles and considered taxes, PDI, blah, blah, blah. Really? $55,000! O.k., well fine... it is a BMW and yes, I can say that the 300/300 under the hood certainly intrigues me but for some reason... the price just seems to be about $7,000 to $10,000 on the high side.

Then again, I have been looking at Importing a car for some time now so perhaps the prices in the good ole USA are clouding my better judgement. Hmm... or are they?

At the end of the day, I am still "not cool" with the price difference between the USA and Canada. 20% (ie. 19.5%) difference or nearly $7,000 between the two countries on base MSRP is just not acceptable. The long-term forecast for the Canadian dollar is around 90 cents or so US so if it were a 10% difference, I would be o.k. with that.

Anyhow, unless Canadian dealers are ready to start throwing in the Premium Package for free (a $3,500 option) BMW is NOT getting my money. Then again... for every person like me, there are half a dozen that are willing to and for that my friends, is why us Canadians will get screwed on new car pricing for many centuries to come.

Hope you enjoyed my $.02... I'm spent.

I'm not a fan of the styling of the 1 series, and seeing it at the car show just cemented my opinion. The interior looks marginal at best... and considering the price tag on them.... I'll pass.

I would much rather have an older Cayman, A3, etc....
