  • stage I finally!!

so in case anyone didn't know, APR is having a holiday promotion. buy 1 program get a second one free, or buy two and get a fully loaded ecu. so i really couldn't look the other way! so the car is finally chipped!!! so far, nice power gain and definately smoother acceleration compared to the stock program. next on the list....the soon to fail diverter valves!

    Re: stage I finally!!

That's great news Lenny! Turns the car into a whole new beast eh. Def. get those DV's swapped out, a boost guage is also a great purchase to help keep your boost in check, and it just looks good. Got my APR guage from Concept 1 aswell. It's always good to have 1-2 spare throttle body boots kicking around also, I just ordered a samco tbb from turbomeyers so I won't have to think about it anymore, and soon enough I guarantee you'll be bolting on more power.

Do you have a VAG com? That would be the very next thing I invested in if I was you.

hmm didn't even think about the tbb, might have to get one.

i don't have a real vag-com, i bought a cable off ebay, and i can run an older version of the vag-com, but i don't have the full functions of it.

          Re: stage I finally!!

That's the same setup I have. It works just fine. Just register the version of VAG com with Ross tech and pay the $99 and it will give you all the functions you could need.
Also, check on your tbb what the model number end in. If it's "T" then that's the updated version and you should be fine (it's quite a bit stronger than the previous one they used). Not a bad idea to have a backup just in case though. And when you get DV's, don't feel like you need to spend lots of money on fancy ones, the 710N's work just fine and are quite resilient. I have bailey sport DV's on my car, but only because the previous owner threw them on, otherwise I'd go 710N myself.

Also, I 2nd the boost gauge suggestion. It's definitely a good idea to have one not just to see what you're boosting at, but so you can see when something is wrong! When you start up-ing the boost by multiples of 3+ from stock, it's a good idea to see what it's doing.

i have the apr bi-pipe so i don't have to worry about the tbb but yea just go buy 2 new 710n DVs and you'll be set.. and get a boost gauge for sure

              Re: stage I finally!!

it's funny, cuz i was asking the guys at concept1 on friday about the 710N and they said that it's not that good, but going through all the az and aw forums everyone uses it.

but then again i should really check the f hose, where is it exactly?

                Re: stage I finally!!

the F hose is at the front of the engine by the TBB

and yes the 710Ns are fine! you can shell out money for the forge DVs or whatever but the 710ns work fine

                  Re: stage I finally!!

Yeah you can spend $200+ for Forge or Bailey or whatever, which will last for years but will need to be maintained, or just spend the $40 or whatever for the 710N's every 5 years or so.

Do you have a pressure tester? If not, you can bring your car over to my place if you want and I'll do a quick boost leak test. That will tell you if the F-hose, TBB, vacuum and boost lines, etc are ok or not.

yessir, IMO a pressure tester is a must with these cars. You can bring your car over any time man.

lenny mods to get for sure is a new F hose (samco) for yours and probably get the samco Throttle body boot too.. or buy an apr bipipe (i have this) if you have money lying around

                          step 2
drive up to the mohawk off centre s and 16th ave and fill up with 94 octane..
switch you program to 93 octane mode.. start car.. let idle 30 seconds.. now GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I think failing DV's is a bit of an urban myth too. You might not even need to worry about it.
