  • S4 back to bi-turbo

Audi will return to a forced-induction V6 on its all-new S4 model rather than sticking with the current V8 setup, a new report finds. With the new S5 model filling in the GT spot in Audi's lineup, the German automaker can return the S4 to its roots of a performance tuner car.

The new S4 — which has been reportedly been circling the Nurburgring — is expected to use Audi's 3.0L V6 FSI and a bi-turbo setup similar to the one found on the B5 car, not a V8 configuration as earlier reported. However, there is the possibility that Audi could opt for a supercharger setup. Whatever type of induction Audi decides to use, output is expected to total at least 300 horsepower — matching that of the BMW 335.

It is also expected that the next-generation S4 will use Audi's new Audi’s Sport Differential quattro system, which is said to virtually eliminate understeer.

It remains unclear when Audi will take the wraps off of its new S4, but our sources say it will bow at an auto show within the year and could be available in the U.S. as early as 2009.

    Re: S4 back to bi-turbo

    i heard 3.6 TT

either way the S4 needs to be competing with the M3 better

    E36 M3 vs B5 S4= 240hp and 250HP
    E46 M3 vs B6 S4= 330HP and 340HP
    E90 M3 vs B7 S4= 420HP and 340HP ????????????
    E90 M3 vs B7 RS4= 420 and 420

since when did the RS4 need to compete with the M3. the RS4 should be raping M3s all day long and competing with the M3 CSL if it ever comes out

its almost like the 335 and S4 are competetors now

    hrmmm

      Re: S4 back to bi-turbo

I think keeping up with M3 there would all of a sudden be too large a gap in between. I think audi made made a wise choice by using the RS4 to take in the upper range where M3 now is. BMW seems to have stepped up the M3 both in performance and price, and is using the 335 to slide in close to the S4. It'll be nice to see turbos come back to the S4 though for the tuning possibilities, and a 3.6 would be even better if they go with that.
