Re: HID Lights, how bright is too bright??
The K rating is not how bright the lights are, but the color of the light. 4300k is natural HID and is that all factory HID systems are. Anything higher than that will be more blue/purple, but there will be less usable light. As Ryan said, 4300k is the way to go. If you really must have more color, don't go higher than 6000k, after that they become too blue to really be useful, especially on wet roads.Mike - 2011 A4 S-Line

3000K Yellow
4500K OEM Whiteish Yellow
6000k light purple
8000k light blue
6000k pure white
Going with 6000k Pure White most likely...

Re: HID Lights, how bright is too bright??
It doesn't work like that! The number is the color, and 6000 is definately blue/purple! 8000 is useless it's so blue/purple.
Fogs are supposed to be yellow anyway.Geoff

don't know too much about HIDs but according to the web site I might be purchasing from they say this..
Note that there are indeed two different colors of 6000k bulbs available from XenoFlo. Some companies' 6000k bulbs are a pure white color, others are a purpleish color. To give our customers the most choice, we offer both 6000k purple and 6000k pure white colors.

Re: HID Lights, how bright is too bright??
i have to say, get whatever color you want to get. doesn't really matter how much light output it produces, since, as OP said, it's only for fog lights anyways. also 8000k will still be brighter than halogen lights.
having said that, my setup is 6000k. blueish white.99 BMW e46 323i SOLD

With an 8k color temp the light will be quite blue which our eyes don't see as well. Blue light is also refected more easily, so on wet surfaces you will have very little light on the road, signifigantly less than with a 4300k or even halogens.
but, like OP said, it's only for fog lights. it doesn't really matter how much light output it produces. that's why i said, get whichever he wants to get.
his fog lights are rectangle shape and not projected, which it should be angled down low to not to hurt eyes on oncoming traffic. ending up not much usable lights anyways.
if it was for headlights, then for sure i would recommand him don't get anything above 6000k.Last edited by white46; 08-29-2007, 09:51 AM.99 BMW e46 323i SOLD
