      Re: Holy Crapola!

I found it a bit too easy when I brought the A6 in from the states, paying like 1/2 of Glenmores price felt nice. Duty is 6.1% and 6% GST, shipping from eastern US was $1900. I paid the duty and taxes with MasterCard and got airmiles LOL, to get into RIV is $263 I think and then $100 for an OOP inspection.

I found a broker to do it for me @ $600 then I figured out how to and said screw that, do it yourself and enjoy.

                  Re: Holy Crapola!

It's a tough call kinda because you know importers like VW/Audi are loosing money now when importing to the US, they can't just jack up their US prices because they would be unable to compete with the domestics. So we won't see our prices go down, if anything the US prices will go up on domestic car and imports. Man thats gotta suck for people in the US having their currency devalue like that.

Not sure what the deal is, but some manufacturers are getting wise to Canadians doing this and have stated that cars intended for the US market that are imported into canada won't be covered under warranty. I recently read that subaru makes you pay the warranty repair work up front and then you apply to Subaru Canada for reimbursement.

                          Re: Holy Crapola!

Warranty can be an issue but it is more your local dealer not wanting to honour a repair because they are pissed about losing out on the sale. However the head companies are usually overturning this as you have still purchased a car from them and how can they deny warranty for the reason that you did not buy the car from this country, would you be denied warranty work if you were on vacation??

I agree though we probably wont see our prices come down, just the US ones starting to rise!

well, there's a difference between getting warranty work done while on vacation out of the country and on a new imported vehicle that wasn't intended for this market.

                            Just something to think about.

Well I agree and disagree, but in most cars there are very few differences between a US and Canadian model and I just feel denying warranty claims is a cheap shot to us Canadian consumers. However it will probably only be a matter of time before the companies start implement specific policies on this subject, which I think could hurt them even more as it may discourage people from buying their products at all.

I personally would probably only import something on the rarer side of the coin or even something not available here at all and in that case warranty would probably be an issue regardless, but it would just be nice to understand why my Dad has to pay 30-40k more for an R8 than his southern neighbours.
