well..I don't think that I can say I didn't try...because I did.
I have to write my MCAT on the 20th and wouldn't have been able to attend anyways because of teh mad studyz0ring that I am doing for it, but I did what I could with that taken into consideration.
Try again next year I guess.
IMO it was the fee that kept most people away...I'm not too sure if this event could have been fully paid for (ie: free reg. + no cost admission) as I am not really aware of the costs involved but that is just my 0.002 rupees as to why not many signed up.
Sorry to hear things didn't work out, Blair. As far as the BMW guys go, I have a friend with a modded 325 and when I told him about the show, neither he nor any of his buds had heard anything about it. Just an FYI. Don't want to be presumptuous, but maybe it was a matter of not getting the word out?
Mabye it is because a lot of you do nothing but complain and hack on each other JUST KIDDING
That Sucks..... I was hoping my first possible event was going to be a good one :(
Has anyone made plans for something else?
Is there any upcomming events?
Help I have to go to one show this year
maybe for next time somthing should be set up a little smaller just to get somthing going no matter how many actually show up then yr by yr hopefully more and more find out and it grows
I think for next year, we just need to get out the word eariler... and that lies on people like me... who left it to the last minute. I didn't pull my weight, and I'll be the first to admit it.
If we do this next year, it might be a good idea to put flyers everywhere... and lower the registration fee. If we could get some sponsorship too, that would make it so much better too. Could we approach C1, Tunerworks, etc for sponsorship? Maybe give them so free advertising? What about Bob? The thing is, the sponsorship could be really small.... but everything helps.
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....
we had lots of sponsors for this year already but whatever.. yea colin next year we'll try for a cheaper lot.. lower the fee,etc i know we can pull it off
Hey Blair, Chris, Ryan, and I'm sure a lot more of you. I personally think you had (have) a great idea in doing an all euro show. Unfortunately I'm on holidays in Penticton the weekend of the show or I would have been in for sure. No excuses but I'm sad to hear the show will not be happening !
I do, however think that it might not be a bad idea to form a committee to relieve a lot of the stress and pressures from a few key guys that seem to do everything. I feel bad for all of you that put in so much work for it to be put on the backburner due to a lack of interest. I guess maybe the timing wasn't the greatest being that a lot of people were gearing up for the Great Canadian the following week however I do think the whole "$20 entry fee is too much" was a weak excuse.

Well I have to throw in a couple things, first off great job by Blair who put in tons of his time to try to get it off the ground as well as everyone else involved in getting the website up and the location. I think next year we will have a better overview of what needs to be done. I think having the word out way earlier in the year would have helped a ton. Also maybe having someone show up at some of the BMW/Audi/etc monthly meets would have got way more of them to register before hand. Also another thing is some people just procrastinate and want ot sign up when they show up, I can see how that wouldn't have worked with our first show as it wouldn't have even have covered costs which would have sucked and made us look bad. Hopefully next year we will get some more local support as really there is not other show like it in our area yet.

It sucks that this show isnt happening, but I'm not sure if the club members can be squarely blamed. If people dont sign up, they dont sign up.
I think a dedicated comittee should be used, and each person should have pre-determined tasks and responsibilities.
Ie: Sponsorship, Marketing, Design, P.R. etc.
Looking at other shows, they go out of their way and pay to advertise. Look at Beyonds front page for example. You can't get into the website without seeing the add for Sport Compact Challenge.(As did DTP, HIN etc) Not saying that Beyond is the answer, but things like getting an add into Southern Alberta BMW club could have been a help. The fliers work well, but it just doesnt look as professional as regular ads. I am not sure if Tunerworks is up to it, but maybe run Bahnfest in conjunction with Bimmerfest or something.. that way you already have an established client base, and almsot guaranteed attendance. With that, maybe even run it as a free show, and rely on sponsors for trophy/prize cash.
Well I might as well lump myself in as a Johnny-come-late-ly and express how this sucks. It also dawned on me while reading this thread that I have yet to volunteer my dj stuff for something.
I've got a pair of SL-1200's, mixing cd players, 16 channel mixer, a peavy 850 watt amp, a BBE and a peavey 18 inch sub that could be used for events. Additionally I have some music too, and my AVLA and CRAA rebroadcast permissions.
I might even have sum m@D S|<1llzZz L0Lloolslllslzlzllolol to go along with it.
Consider them volunteered. Just give me some notice.
Edit: I just read the other thread and if given enough notice I could come up with a 5 - 10 kw generator for juice, and I have a capped pickup for hauling **** around.
I was looking forward to this show as its only requirements being that your car was Euro and not the mods that were into it because unfurtunately mines not yet where I was hoping to have it. But even though the show is cancelled is there any possibilties of setting up something smaller scale for that date just to show some sort of effort?
I too was one of the procrastonators that was planning to settle up at the meet this week, but being a member thats only showed up to one event, Im sure wouldn't have made much deference for this run but would love to help out more in the future if required.

It is sad for the event not able to go. A great deal of work without results is not everyone want to see. Perhaps this is a good lesson without costing $ to repair things go wrong. I’m sure the coordinators can make a better plot for the next. As someone said it is because of the fee which backing people off. I agree with that. One problem I want to point out is people want to see ‘value’. The stuff they are going to pay for is what makes people think important. Just like people love the IKEA $1 breakfast. The value could be doing something good for other people or what is the end-result they can get. Look at people around you that wear LiveStrong wristbands. Do you still donate money even you or your love ones trouble with cancers? I still donate money but will never wear the wristband. My suggestion for the next show is to do a charity show theme. In that case there is a value to attract more cars and spectators(spectators are willing to donate sometimes). Of course, nothing comes for free, how well the event can put out is up to the coordinators. The next problem is the clubs penetrations. Do we know anyone else from the other clubs, Smart/Audi/Porsche/BMW? Spare your own time to let them know an event with meaningful idea behind is coming up. When you able to come to the point to promote make sure you are talking to the people joining up the clubs with the same heart like you. Unfortunately, there are not many running around.
