Well I have been trying to work on the details of this for a bit but I thought I would let you all know what is going on.

This will be NVDs first official show and I hope that it will become an annual event. Since there are a few VW shows already I have decided to make it a bit different and perhaps a little bigger making it a full European Car show. Thus we can have best Audi, BMW, Merc, Smart, VW and so on categories with other cool prizes too. I want to make this show big and I have been in contact with a DJ to spin and EU Tuning and Tunerworks are on board as well.

The tentative date is Sunday August 14th but the biggest problem is we need a location. A large parking lot that is easily accessible and visible would be great. Any suggestions or hook ups would be great. I really want to make this a success and all your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

well, i say get in touch with the people who own that parkade downtown, you know, the one people drive up to the very top to take pics, with the calgary tower in background, have it there at the top or something, from like late afternoon and party throughout the night, lots of food, loud speakers and lights, oooo baby! you realize how many people would come then?? everyone would talk about it too.

It's always best to have a show like this at street level so that you can bring in incidental traffic, but the problem always ends up being cost and space. And if it's properly advertised and sponsored, visibility isn't as important. There were all those car shows 2 or so years ago -- can't remember who put them on -- and they just used cordoned off sections of strip mall parking lots and that sort of thing. Worked out great.

Whenever I see an old lady slip and fall on a wet sidewalk, my first instinct is to laugh. But then I think, what if I was an ant, and she fell on me. Then it wouldn't seem quite so funny.

I had thought of that but we will probably need permission at the provincial level as it as Provincial Park but could be a good thing too! I like getting all these ideas and then we can see which ones work and go with the best!!

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day that we would have our own show Seems like just yesterday Bart was entered solo in WoW! LOL

How about the SAIT, MRC, or UofC lots? Wouldn't you just have to go through the student union or something?

Waht about where Trail apliances is (old costco) the back lot is visable from deerfoot and glenmore. I was driving past there the other day and thinking how much walkin traffic a spot there would get.

Trail appliances was already approached, but it did not work out.

I agree it should be at ground level, preferably somewhere with pass-through traffic.

What about at one of the major box-malls in town such as Westhills, Crowfoot, or the new one on Deerfoot South? Yes, they are busy, but we would just need someone to donate half of a parking lot.

Parking lot at the Canadian Tire/Whatever the name of the hotel is on Macleod+Southland. The Nissan Z-Club hosts their show there every year and seems like a great location. Quite a bit of space there and a very good locatoin.

edit: heres a link from the last event with pics

Well I checked into Fish Creek briefly and we would require liability insurance to have it there which could greatly effect our cost. The strip mall idea is cool but we need to find one that can potentially hold a lot of cars. I thought of even my new office (which is visible from Blackfoot Trail) but I am not sure that it could support the potential for a large amount of cars.

Doing something through the University would probably work out well as alot of those things are run by students, and you could sway them by the fact that teh car show would attract alot of the right demographics in high school students.

Thats a good idea, I don't know who you would approach... they have done that one import show at the Oval but I am sure that is overkill for us, we would I assume want an outdoor event.

Perhaps it would be possible to use Lot10 for this event. The space is huge.... and it would be a prime location. I think setting something up with the SU at the University might be do-able.

I still can't believe NVD is now hosting a show
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

I would probably start from there, since they would be the ones in charge of the lots, even if they can't do it, they should at least be able to point you in the right direction.

Also here is the page for the Conference and Event Centre, which I don't think we would need, but probably has a few people that know who to talk to in terms of getting things done.
