  • World of Wheels Display Thread

This is an attempt to ask everyone for ideas of what they can contribute to a World of Wheels display.

We've decided on a Hollywood theme, emphasizing movies and cars.

We have six cars, so our current plan is 3 on each side, and a red-carpet "hollywood style" between the sides. This will allow visitors to "walk the red carpet" between the cars. We will rope off the cars with a "velvet rope" or something similar.

We would also like a small display with "director's chairs" and possibly some LCD screens (computer monitors) showing famous car movies such as Ronin, Gone in 60 seconds, Fast and the Furious, Gumball, etc. I have access to a large (wall sized) pull-down projector screen if someone can borrow a projector and if we can somehow hang it.

We badly need people to donate any props, supplies or equipment they have or can fabricate borrow for three days.

    Specifically we need:

    Red Carpet
    Velvet rope stands
    Velvet rope / chain
    Screens
    Projector
    Director's Chairs
Movie props - camera's, megaphones, clapboards

Please post if you can help us with these things!

I can get one of these (minus the stand)

I can probably get a directors chair, only problem is it says "A Channel" on it. If that's ok I will pursue it, lemme know.

Hmmm A-channel may object to that kind of representation, especially when they will likely be at the show.

I think some possible sources for borrowing these things are employees of Schools, Large department stores or other large stores, Movie Theatres, and so on.

Re: World of Wheels Display Thread

I also found a price list for a place in calgary that rents stuff. Unfortunately it is all far, far FAR out of our price range.

        PDF Price List

        For example:

        Red plush ropes $5.50/7ft
Stanchions (stands for ropes) $10 each
        Snap-lock flooring: 1.25/sqft

I am guessing this is per day.

Not sure about red carpet... probably similar to the flooring or hopefully a bit less.

Anyway, we're not renting so we need folks to help us out, if you have any contacts please use them and help. We can almost definitely get you free tickets to the show as an incentive to help out.

Buying plastic stanchions is something like $150-$200/6 so for at least 2 sets it would be $300+ which is also pretty far out there.

A possibility may be to make them out of PVC fittings. The design below would involve 3 T's some pipe and a cap. Might be able to build them for $5-6 each, but we would need to paint them too. I could build one as a test if you guys want.

Maybe some strobe lighting to create the paparazzi atmosphere?

Edit: I can probably help out with getting cheap props and decor.
PM me a mailing address. I'll do a little searching. Then send you a package with some stuff that you guys could probably use.

That's an awesome display idea. It's original, and adds some flavour. I don't have much in the way of props and stuff though. Although, if we want to show multiple movies at the same time, I can donate an 19" LCD screen, and a computer to run the movie on.

Anyone made any connections or ideas for display components? We just over two weeks to get things together so we need to get rolling. They key is finding red carpets and coming up with something for the barriers.

Aaaahh, the pre-show crunch. Brings back memories I agree, the red carpet and barriers are key over anything else since the whole theme idea pretty much rides on the carpet Remember Blair, I'll be sending a box of decor for you guys to use to.

Edit: I'm almost certain I can get both of these too....

Re: World of Wheels Display Thread

Well a few updates to pass on; firstly I spoke with the organizers of WoW briefly last night. They have a huge number of club entries this year and the choices will not be made till saturday. They seem to be concerned with themes (I think if you have no theme you have less chance of getting in) and your size and space requirements. I told them that we are flexible on the size and shape (square vs. rectangle) of our area, so hopefully it will be all good.

Also we have gotten a hold of a couple of red mats, thanks to Jason (Tuna) and his wife so hopefully we can get some other stuff sorted out and we should be good to go.

So just to give a little more info, the mats are 3'x10' and we can get 2 for sure (if you need more I'll have to ask again). Also I asked about the velvet rope and she cannot get them....sorry

Thats cool Jason I really appreciate it, we may possibly need on more as we could be looking at around a 30x30 but we can wait as when we find out the acceptance on the weekend we should have the exact dimension of the space. Thanks again
