    Re: V8less Urban Battles

We have to keep the costs in mind but the carpet idea is cool, maybe we can find a lower cost alternative to put under the cars, the colored floor would look sweet with the monochromatic cars!

You could go to those cheap fabric stores, and buy a good chunk of each color of the flag... although I would go mostly black. If you arranged it as a pseudo carpet... the effect would be really cool.....

Yes. I also saw on Vortex some cars that used artist-style easels (very cheap from Ikea) for each car. They had poster-sized color photos plus descriptions and mods listed on each easel. This, plus the German carpet would look pretty sweet IMO.

As far as the costs, we don't have to carpet the entire space. Depending on the setup at the venue, we could line the cars up in a row and place like a 5' strip of each color of carpet along the length. Hence, we would get a long-assed German flag. I think that Colin is right about the German theme. Given that we will be in a sea of Japanese & domestic cars, it would be cool to differentiate on that level.

As far as carpet vs. flooring, costs will have the ultimate say in it. But I REALLY think that carpet looks 10x classier. Again, in keeping with our "high-end" German theme it will differentiate us from the masses.

Edit: OK this is like my 3rd edit Given that we had the most percieved "cheap" display at WoW, I think it's important that we come out swinging in this show. This is a BIG import show. As a club, this is our first crack at many of the Japanese and domestic car clubs in the city. It will be the first time many spectators and competitors alike will see NVD and its cars. As a whole, I think its a good idea to invest in the club's image and take it to the "next level". This was, after all, the clubs new mandate, correct? I for one, wouldn't mind contributing a few extra dollars on top of my registration fee to help pay for the show props. At a car show, image IS everything. But that's just my $.02

I agree with you derick, although I dont have alot of money to chip in. Carpet in the right colors would look SWEET, but it will be hard to find. The thing is, if our club keeps expanding like it has been, and we keep attending shows, these materials would be used over and over again. I have a massive german flag (like 5 feet wide) That I could contribute, but I think the carpet idea would be classy and different at the same time. None of this F&F style, just clean and classy german cars. The only crappy thing is, I wont be in town for this show :(

i think our cars change too much to spend alot of money on an easel with big pictures/mod list.

I think those smaller ones that Bill made last time looked really good. Keep those in-front of each car. If we went with the big easel ones, that would be alot of money from the club, and only the people with their cars in the show would get anything out of it.

                      Re: V8less Urban Battles

They're expensive if you have them professionally printed on that foam stuff like in the pic. But can't we use a slightly scaled down version, photoshop it, and have Kinkos print out like 11x17 prints or something? Then, take the prints and use adhesive on foam board to get the same look. I wouldn't think that would cost too much at all. Furthermore, we would have each car's "portfolio" on file and can alter them for each show to reflect mod changes as time goes on. I think if we did it this way, the signs would cost no more than $15-20 per car. Weather the club decides to go this route or not, I'm gonna make one anyways (as close as I can to the one in the pic) for when I enter shows that we don't join as a "club". So I guess I will figure out the costs soon enough.

well bills friend had the huge printer to do those so we can do them quite large i imagine and at work we have wide carriage HP's that can do like 4800DPI on 11x17 so thats no problem either

edit.. what i meant was what bill stated below this.. just reprint the current ones.. but spell volkswagen right LOL

Why don't you just take those sheets I made and print them 11x17. Don't underestimate just how much work it is to make good looking design and lay everything out properly. If you want to use the existing sheets/design (and just add the new cars), that would be fairly easy and would only cost for the printing... but if you want completely new design and implementation, along with printing... that's a whole lot of time and money. Just my $0.02.

I'm feeling the look of this sign in my last pic. So I whipped up an 11x17 sample of the style I'm shooting for (very rough draft, but you get the idea)......

The looks pretty good Derick. I am for doing whatever you guys would like to do, but we just have to be aware of the costs as the club has a limited amount of cash and we do not want to spend all the money on one event.

11x17 seems like a good size that would work well, you also do not want your sign to overpower the car and space can also be an issue.
