Someone... please... take some QUALITY pics of my ride for me!! I am Digi-cam'less... and in extreme need of some pictures of my car. Besides, I think this is the cleanest my car has been since I bought the thing.

PM me if anyone is up for the challenge!!

edit.. oh thanks so much derick for giving it 110% and helping out with everything even though your car wasn't in this one.. and thanks for staying around the entire day

That is a bummer. I thought you guys did such a great job that at least one of you would win something for sure.

Did you see the Beetle though? Porsche engine swap, pimp stereo and all the interior gauges etc were chrome. His paint has less scratches than mine. I honestly didn't really look at it hard till after the awards, and I can see why now. Kinda funny they had a "best air-cooled" section. There was the beetle, the van and that's about it. I thought for sure Ryan would get something though.

I thought that I would never say this about a Chrysler product, but I like the design of the 300. There, I said it, now I gotta go wash my mouth out with javex.

what a bunk comment. the beetle probably has 10g's sunk into it at least, and the TT had just wheels. of course the beetle will win the awards.

dont get me wrong, I love the TT and the wheels are pure sex, but at an import tuner show, i dont think a stock car is going to collect awards no matter how nice the wheels are.

                          V8less 2003:
A VW fastback sweeps all the possible classes beating out every mk4, mk3, mk2 (some of which were VERY modified), Mercedes Benz's, BMW's, and the most tricked out M3 cabby I've ever seen.

                          V8less 2004:
A beetle does the exact same thing, and sweeps every category. One of which (aircooled) shouldn't have even existed unless there was a corresponding "watercooled" category (ironically enough, C1 sponsors the VW trophies )

I have no problem, recognizing where credit is due. The beetle was a fantastic example and definitely needed some kind of award. My beef is more with the organization, judging, and motive behind the awards given. If a single car is eligible to compete in multiple categories, then measures should be taken to ensure equittable judging. These "clean sweeps" are a common theme that I'm seeing in V8less comps and it is prevelant in all classes. Over and over again, single cars are taking home multiple trophies in different areas, much to the surprise of many competitors and spectators alike. Is this because these cars are the greatest things to come along in their respective classes?..... Hardly. It is because the judging and categorization of cars in V8less lacks the seperating criteria needed to prevent the proverbial apples to oranges comparisons.

There is just as much labour and quantifiable work put into Ryan and Simons cars as there was in that beetle. They are just two different types of cars with different challenges involved in getting them to where they are now. The problem lies in the fact that there is no criteria (whether that be on the judges sheet or in seperation of classes) to recognize this. Hence, we have people "sweeping" the trophies. How do you rate nights of wrenching in the garage versus hours spent tweaking with a vag com; Restoration of a body panel versus custom shaping a body kit; Or how about searching a scrapyard for a hard to find part versus searching a foreign country via a translator to import an indigonous German OEM part? Again, apples compared to oranges, and judging that does not recognize this.

I realized before writing this that there is probably no way to voice my opinion without sounding like "sour grapes". And I really hope no one takes it that way because it isn't. I will be the first one to bow down to a car that deserves higher acalades, but the history of the V8less series speaks for itself....... I just think that credit is not always given where credit is due.

                          ........ I'm done with my $.02 rant.

I'll agree with Derick on this point since he and I were the only NVD members at V8less 2003. A supercharged m3 cabriolet would murder a VW Fastback any day of the week in anyones books... except the judges that day. Hell, they even thought Dericks headlights were factory smoked, little did they know the effort that goes into getting smoked european-code headlights. I don't even want to know what they said about my car.

This being said, I wasn't at V8less 2004, so my opinion is based on what other people have said. But I'll agree, one car shouldnt sweep all the awards. Sure that Beetle is the tits and deserves to win, but best VW, best aircooled, AND best euro? nigga plz.

Just have a nice chat with the organizers and offer to sponsor a trophy next year. If we can help organize the shows, we will get way more respect too
